I have 1/256mb of Samsung DDR266 pc2100.
I need to know what w/ ecc and w/o ecc is....exactly what is ecc? and can you have one stick w/ ecc and one w/o ecc?

I do know that you cant have two different size modules together e.g.

1/128mb and 1/256mb both need to be that same size..

What are some of the better names in the memory biz out there? is Samsung good, i hear they hold the market in the RDRAM so i thought their DDR couldn't be that bad
ANY thoughts on this subject are welcome.... :) B) :) B)

ecc is error correcting checksum. If you don't have ecc now don't add one with ecc. ecc is not supported by most motherboards it is used mostly for server applications. (you most likely don't have or want ecc.)

As for different size modules you can have 512, 256, 128 etc, modules intermixed without problems.

Samsung is fine (good brand) just get the same speed you already have. I you get faster ram it will only run at 266 in your case (wasteful). If you add a slower module your present ram will run slower. All the ram in you system will run at the slowest modules speed.

I would say to get another module the same as you already have... another 256 meg. Take it (the ram module) to a computer store and ask them for another the same. You will then have 512 megs.

I hope this is helpful to you.

I use Crucial memory www.crucial.com. They aren't the cheapest but their modules have NEVER failed me. Kingston and Corsair is also good.
