hi there..

is there a way to block guys having a participation level low (0) downloading from me? where could i talk to the kazaa guys that they change this feature ^^ ;P gettin higher priority with a high level is not enough for me.. lets stop "nothin-sharing-lamers"

A participation level of "0" does not mean people are not sharing. Everyone using version 1.7 or older has a level of "0" because the participation level did not exist yet. In fact, people with a high participation level are probably using a cheater. Anyone downloading from you on KaZaA will raise your participation level. I just figure "live & let live" and don't concern myself with it.
Good luck to ya.

I always have a high participation level, and I've never even downloaded or used the cheater. It's a matter of managing your uploads and downloads properly. That said, I think it's the matter of cancelling leeches is pretty ridiculous. Why waste the time? And most actual leeches are not sharing out of ignorance. I strongly believe that most reasonable people will contribute when they become more comfortable with the way P2P sharing works.

Reallyyyyyyyy. Guest when you don't have anything to do, you can come up with tons of useless stuff. I share but if no one is downloading from me, that ain't my problem. Perhaps we should all cut off paulpalme instead? Find something to do paul :D

Use to be one of the highest fatuations we had here "How To" stop, etc, etc. Turns out it's a never ending battle, just let it be. As sneepboy mentioned, many reasons for it, not just one. But if you just have to know how, search the site different methods talked about here about. I no longer bother to time consuming B)

What about a tool to kill downloads of 'deities' (Participation Level) with about one and a half file shared? Or just zero byte files? Those people kill the p2p community.

Cant believe someone wants to have a feature that stops 70% of the community uploading from him.

However, if the feature stops him downloading from status 0 community members, let him have it.

Is it possible for people to ban diety users? I reached that status legally by leaving Kazaa on several hours every day with 800 mp3 files. However, I noticed that the high level i go, the less software I can find. When i was a low, i was able to find all sorts of software. Now all i find is the popcap games. Is this because people are blocking me?

The only people that really piss me off are those who do not share anything, the participational level I think is less important and as someone has already said, a low ID doesn't mean that they don't share.

Perhaps we need to re-educate these people but at the same time those who share nothing but download everything don't really have any excuses !!

rant over ...

I'm interested where this figure of 70% comes from (OK I realise it was just a guess), there is absolutely nothing to base it on.

How many of you realise that when you use the 'find more from same user' option, it is treated at the other end just like any other upload. So if that user is sharing and doesn't have any upload slots, your request gets remotely queued, but the search option usually times out before it gets to the front of the queue. I would guess that it gets treated as if the p/l is zero too, so that it doesn't bump a genuine upload.

And you are going to use that as the basis for deciding that the user is not sharing ?

So all you people who are 'sick of all those leeches' actually have nothing on which to base your assumptions.

Obviously, we know there are going to be leeches out there, but the methods suggested for finding the leeches are so inadequate as to be useless.

If you must cut people off, make sure it is for a valid reason - such as you have found they only have a couple (or a lot) of crap files. Otherwise, send them a polite message, if you get an abusive response by all means cut them off.

Zero Pl is not what you have to worry about, the people with a PL of 1 are the non-sharers each and everytime. Take a look next time people are uploading from you, watch for the PL's at 1 and see if they are sharing, they will not be sharing. There is some type of hack they perform to be above all fo the Zero's while still not sharing a lick of data. Check it out, no joke, boot all PL's at 1 would be what I say.

just because you have a 0 participating level it doesn't mean that you don't share files. some modem users who don't can't just go online 24/7 and wait for people to dwnload from them. and they just go online when they want to download some files. but it doesn't mean that they won't share files when somebody downloads from them? it just so happens that on the time these modem users are online nobody is downloding from them. it's not their fault. and they don't have the liberty to go online just to increase their participating level.
