I've noticed that screeners have problems with turning into vcd's. I tried to encode the harry potter 2 movie and the sound wasn't working so i extracted the audio with virtual dub and then used that and it worked. Also i'm having problems with the 8 mile screener. why does screener's have so many problems.

Its not because its a screener, its the way it encoded thast giving you problems. What codecs do they use?

yeah it has nothing to do with the fact that its a screener.its that the audio is compressed.
this results in better picture quality.
unfortunately for a vcd the sound needs to be uncompressed :(

you extract the audio into an uncompressed .wav file and then convert it to vcd. I use goldwave for this. I don't like the way vdub does it.

The audio in a VCD must be sampled at 44,000 khz. Most divx and xvid files use a different compression, commonly 48,000 khz and it needs to be downsampled. I used VirtualDub, and it works excellent, with the guides available Here (http://www.vcdhelp.com)

If you want the VCD or SVCD version of a file, you should download it. The extra time you spend converting from Divx, Avi, etc adds nothing but hassle to your life. You can do it, but it takes a while.

Also, you can try a simple program called Gspot which is used to identify what Codec is needed to play the video/audio, and if that codec is installed on your machine. Search for it on Kazaa if you are interested. Real simple to use. --

Exept that in vcd format the audio needs to be 44100 and it hz not khz. I completely agree with trying to download the already converted versions whenever you can.

Good catch Gumby, at least someone is paying attention to these boards. Sometimes I feel like I'm typing, but no one is listening. B) --
