The cable I used until now to go from PC (graphic card) to TV was an audio lead (yellow) ; it worked fine but the quality of the picture was medium.
Today, I bought an S-VHS cable and after installing it in place of the old audio cable, I get a black and white picture on my TV screen ((PC picture is color).

I've searched the forum but found nothing.

Any idea why the picture is black and white (on the AV_1 channel of TV) or color but close to black on the RG channel?

Nb. The S_VHS channel shows a blue void screen .

What should I do?
Should I do some sort of search on the S_VHS channel, if so how? Manuel only says "plug the connector onto the S_VHS input".

Did you select the correct output format on your PC?

For europe it must be PAL (-B) and for USA NTSC.

Mine goes into the SCART of the Video recorder, and I then had to tune it in like any normal channel, except put AV1 when it asked for connection. It sounds like you have a picture slightly out of tune.

Try a different SCART socket if your unsure how to fine tune your TV, as its pretty unlikely someone will have the same model of TV as you (although you never know)

Have you gone into your display settings and adjusted them yet?

You can get a much better picture on TV with the SVHS (depending upon your video/graphics card), but I found I had to go into advanced settings in the control panel>display in order to do this.

You have to say which format (PAL in Europe), and in my card this is subdivided so I think UK may be slightly different to the rest of Europe. You can also adjust the colour, contrast etc here. B)

Hi Paul,

I just checked the nView pannels, there is no mention of output format.

When should I look for this?

NB. If I replace the S-VHS lead with the old audio lead (composite - I think), all is Ok but quality is not brilliant (well....one can't expect a great video signal from an audio lead even if it works).

I'm open to any suggestion (no joking Guys!).

Bingo Rat faced!

I changed the scart and the color is back.

This was the scart I use for the DVD player so I moved the DVD to the first scart and all is well.

One strange happening though:
When I use this scart #2 for the PC, I get a bip bip sound which doesn't happen when I use scart #1.

NB. My red and white connectors are not connected to the TV but to the amplifier to give a hi-fi, stereo, surround sound when available.

I'm really gratefull to your all for sharing your knowledge, I'm a great believer in that!

Make sure none of the S-video prongs are bent or loose, the S-video plug sucks, easy to bend, easy to become loose and pull out from PC or TV. When installing s-vid cables always make sure to not bend any prongs and always make sure the prongs are not movable, this can and will cause reception issues, however s-vid is only for video so your sound issue has to do with someone else, maybe the S-vid is the root cause however it cannot be "making the noise", it must be an interaction with the socket and something else to cause a sound issue. I will look into it and try and help if I should figure something out.

Thanks Share Daddy,

Just to summarize:

1) This sound problem is like Bip-Bip-pause-pause-Breath-breath-breath...etc (almost a human sound)
2)It started after replacing the audio cable to the video input of my Tv by an S_VHS cable
3)It happens when the red and white leads are connected to the amplifier (was Ok before) on all of the amplifiers output modes (tape, CD etc...)
4)If I plug those red and white leads into the tV scart, I get no sound at all.
5) If I turn on the PC speakers, it works fine (sound with no beeps).

Thanks,
Clio.

I begin to understand this, actually I'm even curious as to the explanations:

I got rid of this weird beep-beep by closing down one by testing all settings one my amplifier one by one, then the TV ones and finally those of my PC (closing one by one every single application running in the background).

Conclusion: Inetrnet Explorer is causing it. Since I closed it, the bips have gone!!!!

Any idea where that came from?

Clio,
Do you have microsoft plus installed on your system? I found that to cause all sorts of various issues including sounds and or ghost typing, at first I thought I had received a virus, everytime I would go into a browser words would begin to be typed in automatically, I finally figured out that it was the voice recognition feature of Plus and my TV in the background was making it type into any field where the cursor was. As for the IE, what version were you running and what OS are you currently using. What video card and cound card may also be helpful is figuring this out.

The explanation why you got black&white on scart #2 and color on scart #1 is as follows:
Most devices only have one scart that can decode S-Video signals.

Ran a search on MSplus, found nothing. What is Microsft plus? Has it got to do with XP? I'm running Win2K profesional edition.

My graphic card is Geforce4 MX 440

As for my sound card, i'm not sure, it burnt last year and I changed it then. A search in my device manager says under "sound controllers": Via Ac97 audio controller.

This sounds a bit fishy to me, i my looking at the right thing?
