If a movie is in a dvd rip format does that mean it can be burnt to cd and play on a dvd without converting to mpeg?

No, it simply means that it was ripped from dvd rather than a cam/tv version. Should be reasonable quality.

Canadian Eh!

for you to burn those movies u have to chop them off first... search google for avichop and download it then use it then encode then burn

they are probably in avi format,
but check the file extension first
if they are
u need to convert to mpeg, which sucks a lot, in order to play on your DVD player
if not, burn away!
or, you can burn an avi on a data cd and it will play on your comp, provided you have the rite codecs and stuff

Or you can use nero.
It will convert avi to mpg and then burn it as a vcd all in one go.
here's the sig2dat.

File:Nero v5.5.7.2 with serial.zip
Length:11232128 Bytes,10969KB
UUHash:=uFIN7GpzhYQTHdv5jaEj5nSRNro=

Note that the quality that Nero produces is not very good.

You would be better converting to mpeg first (with something like tMPEGEnc), that way you can check the quality of the file before burning. You can also convert just a small portion of the file and check the quality rather than the whole thing.

And for creating a disk image/burning I would recommend vcdeasy (http://www.vcdeasy.com) as it gives you lots more options, eg chaptering which is only availbaly in nero if you split the file into lots of small mpg's.

It's a bit fiddly at first, but if you are going to burn a lot of video cd's it is worth the trouble.
