I am new to downloading movies so need some help.
I got about 10 movies all either in avi or dvd rip/divx.
I want to burn these to a 740Mb cd in vcd format.
I got TMPGEn AND NERO as software but when they are converted to MPEG thety wont fit onto 1 cd.
How do I do this or do I have to split the movie into sections.
If so what do I use to do this and at what stage do I split them ie in avi format or mpeg format.
I keep getting errors up when I use TMPGEn when I try to edit the size of film it pops up errors while it converts and it means me clicking ok button all night.
I also have virtualdub software but I just getting lost in all these compressions
You can fit up to 800MB of mpeg onto an 80 minute cd using standard encoding.
If your movie is only slightly too long, you can reduce the bit rate slightly to fit it onto 1 cd, otherwise you will need to split the movie into 2 or even 3 sections.
The easiest time to do this is when you convert to mpg, but for more info there are links on the FAQ (http://doa2.host.sk/index.htm) page.

search on google and download a program called AVICHOP and install it and it will cut your divx/avi movies into pieces and then use tmpgenc to encode nero to install...
cheers!

If you need to spilt. When using TMPGEnc click 'File' on the tool bar then choose 'Project Wizard', follow the instuctions on the settings page the top section is labelled 'SOURCE' click this you can then split. Select 'start frame' then 'end frame' for first vcd when completed when completed do the second disk. You might also try the 'Mpeg Tools' in the 'File' menu, click the 'cut and merge' tab in the 'Mpeg tools' window that will appear cilck add, select file click 'edit' adjust start and finish times and run.

Lynx, Man I thought I was special being able to fit 703 Mb's on an 80 minute CD and here you go stating you can fit 800 Mb's. How the heck do you do that? Even overburning will not give you another 97 Mb's. There are 90 minute CD's of which I own some, however I have yet to be able to burn to them at anything more than 703 Mb's, I think it may have something to do with my burner itself, I am not sure. But if you got some type of miracle program or special button to hit please let me in on it, thanks.

It's only if you are creating VCD format. Mpeg files already have all the indexing information built in, so there is almost no overhead when burning to cd (the same is true for iso and bin files).
An 80 minute cd has a nominal (unformatted) capacity of just over 800MB.
You are right about 90 (and 99) minute cd's, you have to have a burner which is capable of handling them.

I tried all the above and when I drag and drop my Mpeg to nero it says please insert a disc large enough to write to.
I have it set on disk at once and overburn and I am using latest version.
So I been trying to split my Mpegs and when I do using TMPGEn my movies are upside down?
I aint got a clue why but my head is sore and flat haha.
Also I found out that my ASPI drivers are corrupted as Nero info tool tells me so what do I do?

Yeah, my drive is listed as being capable, however real world testing has left much to be desired! If anyone has some brilliant idea or program I could try please feel free to post it, thanks. And thanks for the explanation Lynx, I learn something new everyday. Hopefully I can someday repay that favor with some info of my own. If you ever have a question regarding nuts or bolts (automotive type fasteners) just ask me, that is how I earn a living, as much as a computer geek knows about PC's, that is me about fasteners. Just thought I would offer my services in case anyone here needs a hand, specailly the car enthusiast doing a little rebuild or something. I am here all of the time for queries. However those would have to posted in the off topic section of course  .

Down load this program http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/acp.shtml
You will need to get Tempenc from somewhere.
With this I can convert most movies fit on an ordainary cd and they will play on a standard dvd player.
