Codecs For Music Files?

sorry for the dumb questions but I have having some problems playing some audio tracks i downloaded. They play, but I har no sound. Again these are audio file, not video. Could it be I am missing codecs?

What is their file extension?

For example .mp3 .wma .ape .mpc etc.

mp3 Like I said it plays, but no sound at all

I will then try to share it from another source and it only plays for a few seconds, then poof...dead air again again. Seems weird that it is on this crystal method album and none of the others

Probably a messed up file. Look around on the forum a bit, you'll find lots of topics about this. Specially in MusicWorld.
