This is not P2P related but a very usful tip.
Before you start, for any n00bs out there modifiying you registry can result in * up your PC. Do not try this unless you are confident you know what you are doing.
1. run regedit from the command prompt in windows.
2. navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Internet Settings.
3. Have a look in the right-hand window and see if there are two strings named MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server. Double click on the strings to change the value. If they are not there go to step 5.
4. Change as follows
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 6
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 8
[Finished]
5. If the strings are not there you will have to create them. Right-click in the right hand side of the window where all the strings are and select New>DWORD Value.
6. Enter MaxconnectionsPerServer as the string name and hit [Enter].
7. Do the same again but instead call the string name MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server.
8. Go to step 4.
Hope this makes sense. If in doubt ASK, I will gladly help.
If anyone wants me to explain how this speeds up I.E. I will write another post explaining.

Internet Explorer 4,5&6 are designed to comply with Hypertext Protocal 1.1. This dictates that a web browser should draw no more than two steams of data from a web server at any one time. The thing is, your browser's capable of getting many more streams than that, and if you increase the number it's looking for, you vastly speed up the web page download process.
I do not know what happens if you increase the numbers, experiment yourself and post any findings back here.
This will indeed speed things up, specially for high bandwidth users.
It is possible to increase the numbers a bit more, just don't go higher than 10.

Setting the numbers to a big value won't blow up your computer, but it won't have any speed benefits either.
Just hold 10 as a maximum value.
It almost never happens that you have 10 or more donwloads from the exact same server. And if you do, those 10 will probably already use all available bandwidth.

I have a 56k dial-up and the pages now load like the speed of ISDN.

10 in hexadecimal notation is 16 in decimal notation
A in heximal notation is 10 in decimal notation
When you edit the value you can switch between hexadecimal and decimal notation.
I followed the directions and found the right place. When there i hadnt got the MaxconnectionsPerServer so i attempted to make a new one. When i do it says it already exists(?) but it isnt in the list. Any suggestions?

Exactly what it says on the box.
Delete Junk from registry, history etc as well as tweek your network settings to optimum performance depending upon your conection type.
Can also manually stop it interfering with things you rather it didnt or set it to work automatically every night, week etc.
Also manafes startup items etc etc
yes, pretty coo, get the full version on kaza, its there, its 1,514 kb and called system mechanic 3.6 + serial :)

Bringing this back up for new people.
Having just re-installed my OS, I found out just what a differance this tip really makes :D
My surfing was going very slow till I remembered I needed to make these changes to the registry :)

I think that TCPIP Optimiser does this for you. It's a freeware download.
You can download it from the 'net (http://www.btinternet.com/~connetica/tcpopt.htm) or from KaZaA (do a search).
If you use TCPIP Optimiser, set it to 'extreme' - speeds things up for most people.

I did what you said and I noticed a huge improvement. I usually had a download speed of about 2800 and now it is 4000+. On a recent speed test from this site I received 4447 download. I mean I thought it was capped at 3000 but from these speed tests I noticed that is not the case. I was wondering will I get in trouble with my ISP(Adelphia) for doing this because I'm concerned about. Thanks. :o

I just reinstalled Windows XP pro and was going to edit this but when I checked mine said
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
Should I still change them?

I used Tweakmaster so I don't know if that will change the settings

there shoul be some small progs like calculators that do this thing, anyone can suggest?
standard calc.exe sucks so much; this little proggie definitely needs more calc.ium to become strong or grow up B)

Hi - I went into the registry locations as suggested and found the following entries for MaxConnection etc -- Should I change them or am I already optimised?
MaxConnectionPer1_0Server REG_DWORD 0x00000020(32)

depending on operation system, there are other reg values you may change:
this is an information from r. schlabbach, developer of RASPOOE 0.98 driver for dsl:
you can read all the things for win9x and win2k and so on here (http://www.gschwarz.de/tdsl_2.htm#registry2000)
it's a german website, but i am sure you find your os and then you can read the regs entries.
also you can find patches. :)

Try this out. It is a program called datefool that fools your program into thinking that it is still within the trial period.

For those who don't understand how hexidecimal works, it's pretty simple
decimal is based after the number 10
hexidecimal is based after the number 16

yes indeed. you can "show" very large numbers without needing much place, e.g. for memory adressing and memory content.
for example: FFFFFFFF (16) equals 4294967295 (10)
and don't forget the magic "8" and in the past also the magic "16" in computer technology.

I found out If I hold down the shift key and breath in and out rapidly for one minute I get really dizzy. Try it that will speed things up also. ;)

It might because it could use all your available bandwitdh to load that page.
It should work in IE 6.
Check in the registry to see if the values are in there or not and its your choice whether to do them or not.

I am running XP Pro, SP1, IE6 and when I went to check the registry for the values I noticed that I dont even have these keys. MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server.
I am on 768kb cable and have been to several tweak and test site and have my connection optimized.

This is a kind of computor language, computors read this quicker, like binary. On my Amiga i had no way of getting cheats for games so i started to hack into them & the save files. It is all done using hexidecamal. If you have 1000 gold for example search the file for 03e8 & just increase the number for more gold. You will need a hex editor for this as note pad will not edit hex files properly. Usually all the players stats are in the same place, like if you have 3 lives, 20 bullets, 3 grenades ar whatever they will be there somewhere. I have only come across a couple of games that i could'nt hack.
Did that make sense to anyone???
PS most hex editors have a built in hex converter.

TCP/IP Optimizer from www.speedguide.net can do this MUCH easier than dealing with hex codes and editing your windows registry.
HOWEVER...
If you are on WIN 95/98/98SE/ME, then you should NOT set this too high as they are ALL limited to 100 simultaneous ip connections -- exceed that, and your computer will slow way down and possibly crash.
Also consider how many connections Kazaa Lite++ is making -- especially with many sources PER download, multiple uploads going (and hidden uploads queued with upload requests coming in nearly constantly), and also supernode connections, your searches, and others listing all your shared files.

Yes u want to add those dword values into the registry in the location described at that start. Since you have 56k increasing those numbers from where they are will not do much.
56k blows ass and you should excpet slow web page loading, if you want faster pay more for broadband. You can only squeeze so much and optimze 56k to a point where it does not do anything anymore.

If you want higher speed, just use another browser as Opera (http://www.opera.com) or something, IE is crap
