Some user in a country a 1000 miles away was d-loading a couple of mp3s from me. He messaged me (on KL) to say he was glad to find the files. We had a little chat, and he gave me details of some of his files so I could d-load them from him.
My search couldn't find them (No Result). So there we were, all wired up, with me u-loading to him at a decent rate, and chatting happily.
Why couldn't I find his files? Seems crazy to me. Is there anything I can do to widen my searches? (Like become a supernode - I have ADSL).
O ye Gods, your suggestions and explanations would be very welcome. :(

I'm probably way off base, but I think you should have found his shared files, with a few attempts. Maybe he was behind a firewall.
As far as widening your searches, you can hop supernodes. If you use the search for the forum, you should find a few threads that deal with the how-to part of it.
And I think there is some sort of hack you can do to increase you search results, as well. This is also discussed in other threads on the forum.

You could've right-clicked his name in your upload window and choose find files from this user (or similar option) and you'll see all his files. If it doesn't work the first time, try again. Sometimes it doesn't work the 1st time.

Thanks for your help, guys! You're right, I should have done a "Search More from This User", instead of a normal search.
I am still fascinated (and annoyed) that someone has access to my files when I don't have access to theirs -- seems illogical and unfair.
I've now booked in as a Supernode. I will try to find more info in this forum. I run 24/7, so I might be useful to the community. I hope so.
Thanks again. No doubt I'll have more questions in due course. :P

This question has been driving me crazy too. I don't think that the search engines in KL are particularly effective (or at least that's my current theory...) We could do an experiment, with some participation...one of us (or probably more effectively 5 or so of us) could put a bogus file in our shared file, named something obscure and unlikely to be shared and then see if it shows up on a search...probably an empty .doc file with a way unlikely name, say popsicle production in Siberia...wodja think? Anybody game?

This IS a strange one..
I think it's to do with how far your searches go.
When he searches on his supernode it must do an additional search request to your supernode too, however when you do a search on your supernode it must do an additional search request to a completely different supernode. (Not all supernodes are searched to each search request, otherwise there would be too much network traffic)
Searching for more from same user should work, however. (?)
