Shared, at the end of the day the rules are the same for everyone - whether or not people agree about the sig rule its there for a reason, it's ok to point out your sig to someone, but not the links

reason being we get complaints that it's ok for some members to post links to sites and not others

you have the link in your sig and the rules say we have to remove the other links - it's nothing personal and its the same for everyone. i dont see why there has to be such a fuss over this, and i reckon pm'ing would have been better because these things always get out of hand and it's not good for the place :confused:

as i said, its ok to point your sig out to someone - read my post again, we get complaints from other members, and thats fair enough and they have a point. thats why the rules are there

this can be sorted by pm and by following the rules, that are there for everyone

So let me get this straight...If I ASK for a link to help me out even if said help was for filesharing purposes then a user cant post said link...or he cant if its his site? Can he post said link to another friends site? this actually raises a good point - i believe Lamsey should be put on moderation - he frequently posts images: these are nothing more than links to images on his site...by looking at the source, it is possible to find his website, hence he's just spamming.

It's not that hard imo, he could have linked to http://www.kceasy.com/ but he prefered to link to his own site.

Also it probably would be different as there was no forum were you have to subscribe, therefor i saw it as advertising. Wich is done here way to much. Why should i deny some and allow some others?
In my preception this is something totally different as a pic that is linked from some site...

because of the filesharing part of this specific site we let the post they made a couple of months ago regarding their site untouched altough it could have fitted in the advertising rule too...
But still i'm wondering why this is a problem, seeing the sig every 5 posts in klite i wonder if the link can be missed?

Before that gets ugly, I gave Lamsey consent to host those "calling cards" that moderators use (e.g. the signature one). ;)

Main reasons - He helps in the compression, and it saves my site's bandwidth; eats up his instead ;) Course, I rarely get near the 8GB/month limit anyway :lol:

Without trying to take sides, you could have linked here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54265) to the project's download on SourceForge and told him which file to look for in the list. (In this case, either kceasy-0.11-setup.exe for the installer or kceasy-0.11-src.zip for the ZIP).

Course a newbie wouldn't be able to get this on their own - That's why such questions are answered here and we (I mean the community) provide help for them :)

No there is a difference. The SwapGate project is a project started by the last Admin 7thE working together with IntraDream; the program writer, and many KLF SwapGate beta testers. Since 7thE left, we have been waiting for this news and so we can now continue with the testing. As far as Edskes is concerned he has always been the major mirror for this forum and for the products of the developers. That is what Paul and VB wanted. As far as I can remember when you asked Paul, in the lounge if you could be a mirror for K-lite products, or have a link on the K-lite website, he was not interested.

i feel i should reply :D

i have no problem with either 'modding' or not. i enjoy the place and was asked to help out around the board when i could, i said yes and dont know/dont care if anyone else was asked before me

only time it pisses me off is when things like this happen, we get bitched at for trying to do the mod stuff and someone doesn't like it, even though it's in the rules

if the consensus is that i should'nt be doing it, then i'll happily not and continue coming here as a member :)



@Shared, about Edskes, I guess Nigel is right, and you quoted the part of his post that suited you. he was always the main mirror for everything that happened/got developed here, and afaik he doesn't have "three balls" :smilie4:

you know there was never a problem between us, and we pm'd each other all the time in the past, mostly before the mod thing - my attitude towards you never changed and if you had a problem with me i would rather have heard it by pm

if you really wanted what's best for this place you wouldn't start threads like this, and you could have pm'd jetje or any of us for an explanation

Sharedholder should not be a mod anywhere on this forum.

There are several good reasons for this. The following list is not definitive :

1. His understanding of English is very poor. Like it or lump it, the board is in English.

2. His understanding of the board rules is suspect.

3. He disregards those forum rules when he feels like it.

4. He cannot control himself properly and reacts in a manner which is not proportionate to the situation.

5. His only plus point is that he can provide links to shed loads of software.

6. So can loads of us, but we don't do it because it's against the rules.

POL on the other hand is exactly the type of person who should moderate software world, because he is exactly the opposite of the above list. The same is true for JJ.

I removed a Direct Download to an .exe program.

I always remove these, wherever i see them...and for a very good reason, not just because they are against the rules.

You are a lot more "Streetwise" than a lot of people regarding what can be downloaded and installed by some malicious person or indeed in error...you should understand this as much as anyone.

Although I believe Sharedholder is above reproach and i trust him, I cannot say the same for everyone that posts here.

I cant treat one person different from anyone else.. and before you mention Eskes, please remember he is an official mirror for the board. However if i came across a Direct Download of a piece of software from him, i would also remove it.

I also pointed out in the edit where the site was that they could get the download... ie To click his Sig.

So what have i done wrong?



I am not going to mention "Links", as this subject is being discussed in Team Chat at the moment.

When i decision is reached, then i'll implement any new Rules exactly as I try and implement the current..... As laid back and with as much leaway as possible, while trying to protect the members and the integrety of this board.

the solution:

I have a good idea to stop all the complaining from members then after like 700 post the topic quiets down. What we should have is a "Valued member" group. Valued members would have the following options

-Start polls

-Close topics

-Edit topics

-Post in a special "ideas forum"

Valued members would be used to help mods a bit, and to make the community more active and lively. Anyone can become one. the requirements needed would be:

-Have a mod vouch for you (or another valued member)
-Be accpted by that mod/valued member

On of the people mentioned would then have an admin move you to that group.

To counter any complaints that people might have, read below:

Complaint:
-way to many people would ask to be one.

Fix:Each mod can only vouch for one person, if you pmed a mod/valued member and you recieve no replie, then it is most likely that a mod has already vouched for a person.

Complaint:How would the mods agree on who to let in?

fix: The member pm's a mod with an application and the mod then (if he likes the application) he would disscuss the member (with the members application in a quote) in team chat and the other mods would decide if the person is worthy

complaint: this would separate the members, as they would make the dicisions

fix:the valued members would only make the very beta-beta disions, and then the mods or admins would approve or disaprove of it and then introduce it to the members to decide the outcome.

Unfortunatly, that is something you have to take up with the admins, its their board...

However, if anyone finds Direct Downloads to .exe programs (not from the admin) then report them.

In anger sharedholder started pointing out links from other members. Most of these have probably been removed now. He could better of let it go. Of course I understand sharedhoder's frustration, but those are the rules of this forum. They are now being enforced equally. Sometimes it's better to take it on the chin and not retaliate. I believe personally that one should live by the spirit of the rules, not by the word...

I really do understand sharedholder, I read it. Did it occur to you that raen7 probably was already helped by your link, before jetje removed it? Why not just let it go and move forward? Please don't waste your time, scouring this board, looking for more ddl's for the mods to delete, it's only removing the quality of this board. That is surely not what you want? Well to be honest if the Mod's are announcing that all people should be treated equally, in that DDL's are not permitted by anyone, then edskes post needs to be edited as well.

It has been stated repeatedly that if it is not right for one, it is not right for another. Unless there is another reason behind the edited posts, I think we'd all like to hear it <_<

It's not only that, the difference between edskes and some others is that they "force" people to sign up to their forums to get some goodies. So that's plain advertising.
It's quite simple that if all the support was given here, wich is the case with edskes there would be a less bigger problem i guess.

This whole stuff could have been easily solved if Shared took the time to pm me, i'm sure we could have worked out things easily. cause in this specific case he linked to the site not to the forum.

My personal impression is that there are ome guys that use excessive posting to advertise their site and forum, and by that abuse this forum and their members. It sure seems that they like to attack the forum and the mods better then to be constructive here. Just to promote their ripoff forums. Me personally don't like that.
One of the things we do is stopping advertising posts other then in the sig. The sig is enough. Is it so hard to point out to a big advertising banner instead of giving a link? I think this forum has been more tolerant for that purpose then many other forum.... but it seems that for some it's never enough.

If some people can't have it that way i guess they just stay at their own forums, i wish them all the luck and just hope for them their members don't do the same there as they do here... cause i would like to see how they would act on that and how tolerant they would be modderating that ;)

Well, let me say My Opinion about this:

First, let me point that I know shareholder, Musleman and haxor41789 have been,and still are,
major contributors to this board. There is no doubt about that in my mind.
However, lately their Contributing has had a little bit different flavour on the side,

When the folks behind the Original KLite++ 2.4.3
stopped Developing it created a vaccuum.
Ppl would need Up-To-Date KLite.
Groups of ppl got together and started working on it.
These Groups made they own forum and/or Site where they would
"Distribute and Support" their version.
I have no problem with the fact that they have a Forum and/or Site,
a lot of ppl here has some sort of Forum and/or Site.

I have a Problem with People linking to their OWN Site/Forum on
a post, especially when the link is on the Signature allready.
Post like "Go here", "Check this" etc. No matter who does it.
I see this as a Spam. And im not the only one.
We get reports when ppl starts Spamming about their site.

Of course, there is several ways to get around that rule
if one must have more exposure to ones site.
Ask friends to spam about it, create a new account etc...

But in the end it would be just Spamming about the site/forum.

In this particular case, i got 2 questions in my mind atm.
Why would one need the link in that post to their Site/Forum so bad
that this cant be solved via PMs?
Why moan about the Mods and rules like this here?

Atleast this thread has made me wonder if we too need a rule like in suprnova forum:

The fact that this has been allowed to go on, in spite of SH's terrible attitude and manner of speaking to people is a credit to the patience and good sense of the moderators here.

There are plenty of other places where he would have been told where to go, long before now.

However it is getting beyond the point where he is taking the pi$$ out of other people's good nature.

The bottom line is that they don't have to explain themselves to you. Admin gives them the right to moderate this board as they see fit. You can do the same on yours. If you do not like this situation that is unfortunate, but tough.
