Connecting 2 Pc's

There are some files on my desktop that I want to transfer to my laptop.
Could anyone explain what I have to do if I want to connect my 2 computer with an ethernet cable please?

both need a free network card, and also need a crossover cable. plug one end into desktop, other end into laptop. Then the computers will establish a connection. then run the network connection wizard.

then right click a drive or folder you want to share and click sharing, then click share this drive and choose a name for it.

done.

oh ya, both computers need to have different computer names, and the same workgroup name.
