I would be willing to have to pass through an initial sign in screen that specifically spells out where requests are to be posted. It seems that no one reads anything anymore, I thought it was just people who work with/for me, but as it is readily apparent this "not reading anything" has spread across the globe and looks to be picking up speed. How about a test to join, pass the test we give you a star right off the bat, flunk the test and you have to take it again in 24 hours. Something to slow down the posting in wrong sections. It is more of a "How the fuc(" or "What the Fuc(" when it happens than a real problem. I mean the biggest problem for me, is just trying to make sense out of it. (here me getting into the head of a newbie (not all just the special ones) Gee, I think I will post a request for something here where it says
Verified Movies & TV Episodes
Post verified movies and TV episodes here.
No requests! Those must be posted in the requests section.
Yeah that makes sense.
Is it a language issue, I think not, I think it has nothing to do with language or country of origin. I think it is simply mankinds lack of reading anything that could remotely help you understand and or improve yourself. I am not declaring any single person incompetent, just LAZY or I don't know, maybe just in a hurry. Either way I would love to come up with a way of making people read instructions or least signs, warning signs, traffic signs, signs in general.
What do you think we can do to make people READ (walk) before they POST (run)?
PS This issue kind of reminds me of the voter problems in Florida during the last US presidential race. And they still haven't fixed that, so what I am trying to say is this is a simple experiment, not planning on fixing this, I think we will never be able to do that, but maybe we could make it better. But this is open to all kinds of input, funny, mad, happy, sad, helpful, hurtful, beligerent or bad. Bring it on.

What we need are cattle prods, or perhaps a spring loaded boxing glove that flys out the monitor a smacks someone if they post in the wrong section?
Or just more mods maybe? ;)

Probably possible, but probably dreaming if you think this forum would do something like that. But this was exactly what I was looking for, thanks for your thoughts, all are wanted and appreciated.

only possibe if everyone is a member. It is not, so you can't people kept from logging because they will change usernames. Ip will be a possibility but the admins would get a hell of job with that. <_<

ShareDaddy--If you try to make something idiotproof you will just discover that there's always a bigger and better idiot out there somewhere.
Be happy and pleased that people (never as well organized as packs of dogs, for example) seem to stay as well within guidelines as they do. I know that this is an uniquely American point of view, but apply the rule of Adam Smith -- The Market Will Regulate Itself. And unattended topics will wither, and popular topics in the appropriate spot for their audience will flourish.
Actually, what I'm more concerned with is the lack of participation, wherever it ends up. I checked the membership and there appears to be way fewer than a hundred of us actually writing to this forum...
Bring on the chaos! Bring on the Thousands!

I just got back to this string, I agree with you about the nourish and or flourish comment, rather adept, however the posts get attention and keep it due to the incorrectness of the location or topic, so your idea is sound however this forum just does not seem to fit into the guidelines you have discussed. It seems the bad things draw more attention and replies than the good things, so the bad things start taking up the entire first screen of a section and pretty soon everything is a mess. I have gone so far as to try and PM a person when they have incorrectly posted instead of reply, which takes the topic back to the top where everyone see's it, but that does not work, someone will eventually find it, even weeks later and make a comment. I am not looking for a total solution to the problem, since I started this post they have already made some changes, like the red instructions below each section. This should help however it has not proven effective yet. I recommend still coming up with some ideas on how to fix it, we may need to think like newbies to fix this, so everyone put on your newbie hats and get thinking.

i dont know how to fix it, but we need SOMETHING!!!!
mebbe like except for special people like admins, mods, you, me, cp, td, fc (yes, fc), mzu, nut, and all the other people we konw to be trustworthy there must be a special page where it has in BIG FONT NO REQUESTS!!! and a link to the requests section.
and you must hit yes to enter, and if you post a request in there, your post will be deleted, not moved.
however, this would rrequire hiring out some people without lives(shouldnt be hard, i can think of one already :) ) that will delete these idiot posts
btw, i have vice city! and its only 120 kb!

Since I am not an unrestrained free market wacko but by nature more of a Scandinavian Socialist I suppose that some regulation might be in order...but that would require a bureaucracy, and that means more moderators.
Just for comparison, check out the FastTrack board...man, that thing is really well regulated...just blink wrong and zip! your topic is gone! They have dozens of moderators...I've only seen a couple around here and they very rarely show up in forum. At fast track they're like flies on (well, you know)

Deckard, how can you say this?
You come from a country that mis-spelt most of the English Language and then spread it around the world as the 'norm'.
Im thinking of little things like: Programme (not Program), Colour (not Color) etc etc etc
And then you complain as the language continues to evolve?
How arrogant is that? j/k
deckard
12-05-2002, 10:53 PM
Upon later (and perhaps more sober) review, I agree, you are right, that was a pretty arrogant thing to say.
And you are right as well about language evolving. Hell, if it didn't we'd all be speaking like Chaucer.
I have a 3 year old niece who seems to know three languages--English, Spanish, and Spanglish.
Guess which one she likes best?
Also my sincere apologies to masa killer; I like your posts and didn't mean to be rude. Don't mind me. I'm just a grumpy old fart.

Masa, Did you read my posts? I meant just what you said; I am not looking at killing anyone or banning anyone. My point is this, the more people we have joining, which by the way since I have joined there have been a whole bunch, means this is only going to get worse unless we can make it better or easier to understand. Like, since I started this string the Admins have made the “No Requests Here” print stand out by changing the color. However, as we all know this has not cured the problem. Simple ideas, like changing the color of the instructions helps, so keep the ideas coming and try not to over-think this thing, we are not trying to limit users, we are trying to enlighten them. It has also gotten better since this string started as not every Tom, Dick and Harry is replying to the newbie when he makes a mistake, this is one of my points, one person replies with why we cannot or will not answer that particular post and we have simply informed another newbie, without drawing attention, over and over to the post as was the case just a week ago. I want more people on here, diversity is the strength of a forum, and we want diversity, different ideas, cultures, beliefs and values to make this forum interesting to all. However making changes that benefit all, especially new comers is what I have planned. So please post some ideas about things we could change to make a newbie feel more welcomed and knowledgeable when they show up. :)

I just reviewed an old posted joke of mine about stupid people and the signs they should have to carry, it reminded of this string. My problem is I just can't see there signs, in fact that is probably one of the biggest problems with web forums, you can't see anybodies sign and they can't see yours. What a hoot.

As a Newbie myself, the only comment I can give is that, after browsing through various topics and threads, it does seem rather intimidating to us virgin type posters to comment, for fear of being slammed, ridiculed, made to look like complete deadheads, which isn't always the case, as I'm sure you all understand. Posting for us Newbies can appear daunting, or maybe it's this damn paranoia getting to me again?

I'm not a doctor, but paranoia sure sounds like it would fit the bill. :D
This is not meant to slam, ridicule or even discourage newbies, simply give us some ideas on making it easier to understand. Someone new like you is exactly where we could and should get some ideas from. What would make it easier for a newbie such as youself initially understand and post? Got any ideas, things that would have helped you? Were listening (so to speak). :)

I, personally would like to see a "Getting Around The Kazaa Lite Board For Newbies" or some such topic, that deals with navigation, posting, setting up My Controls etc, the same way as the Help file does. I know all the information, well I think all, can be found in the help files, but if it is a problem that posts are placed incorrectly, or repeated a dozen or more times (I have seen a few in the short time I have been a member), then maybe this sort of idiots guide would alleviate this problem. I know I made a couple of posts that had previously been covered, only because I was so hasty to get the answers that I didn't even consider to use the search facility, as I didn't really know my way around. I'm getting used to it now, and boy, what a wealth of information can be gleaned. If only I knew the meaning to some of the technical jargon that is bandied about by you hardcore lot, I would be sorted. Ooh, so that's what search engines are there for.

Possibly the primary rule for each topic could stand out in bold and in color and in the simplest English possible, with French and German and Spanish subtext (also in color)
That wouldn't be too hard to do, there aren't that many--haven't counted, 18 or so?
Come to think of it, a non-English section would also be really cool! As an American, I certainly would like to brush up on my pathetic little skills!
(Tho that may become a little complicated to set up...???)

What's that phrase? Oh, yeah----- Stupid is as Stupid does----I think that's it.
Just keep that in mind. No matter how the board changes, there are going to be people that can't follow directions or don't have the patience to read the different sections to find the appropriate areas to post. That's not to say that the board doesn't need improvement(like an adult room :D ), and chasing perfection is a worthy endeavor.

Well, you're right, of course, and there are WAY too many languages to stuff all the gaps, but I was hoping to make things a bit easier for those who don't understand this language very well...I'm just wondering how well I could navigate around this site if it were all in Dutch...or Italian, and how chagrined I'd feel at my inability to follow simple instructions, much less the complicated exchanges that go on here...but I still think that if the goal is to direct posts to the correct location, then it is at the very least polite and more than that inviting and amenable to approach it from a point of view of cultural accomodation...
i.e. German is related to Dutch, and French is common both in France and Belgium (no jokes about Belgium here!) I believe that Spanish might be at least vaguely comprehensible to Italians (just an assumption on my part, blow me away if I'm wrong 'coz I have no idea)
And this would be in addition to English. OK, it forgets the Slavic languages, and the Orientals, but at least it's a step...isn't this what we thought that computers could do in the first place?
(I'm supposed to be working right now. Ah well I'll get it done later. Couldn't resist coming here.)

It says...'Jazeker' throws me, but something to the effect of can we all write in here to register?
  have a good laugh at my expense. I don't mind. I really wish I knew Dutch, and more German than I do. I recognize the word jemand but can't remember its cognonym in German.
Wait! I think that I remembered and I did not search the word 'jemand' online -- it means 'everybody' doesn't it?
But whether I as an English speaker can understand is not the point. The point is, could a native German speaker understand it, together with its English supertext? Or with its French subtext?
