Rachel Getting Married.

Just to get it out of the way- yes, Rachel does indeed get married.

This is not a movie in the ways movies today are traditionally defined.
There is no plot, no real beginning, middle and end...nothing blows up and there are no robots.
Instead, this film immerses us in the experience of a wedding weekend, held in a rambling house in the (obviously well-to-do) Connecticut suburbs.
There are lots of people around, only a few of them formally introduced and seemingly, non-stop live music.

Technically, the film is a mishmash of styles- some scenes are formally presented, others feel like a cell phone camera wending through the crowd.
We do learn- more by osmosis than anything else- some of the family's history but the wedding itself is the real center of the film.

I'd like to attend a party like this one- not as a principal player, just an attendee.
The food looked good, lots of spirits flowed and the people were friendly and inviting.
Spend a few hours, have a good time then leave the family to sort out their dramas as best they can.
Which is exactly what this movie does.

An interesting way to spend a few hours.

Gran Torino

I thought Eastwood played a good part, I liked the toughness of the guy and he was funny in small parts. The beating of the Chinese girl was rather shocking, I found that a little disturbing. But the worst part was the ending, it took me by surprise and i didnt like it. I thought he should have opened a can of whoop-ass or something. Overall it was moving in various parts so i'd give it 7.5/10

Thank you for spelling the title correctly, yevgeny.

If possible you might want to rewatch the movie and see if the ending doesn't make more sense to you the second time around.
80 year old men have pretty much emptied their whoop-ass cans and to suddenly reanimate as Dirty Harry might have been initially more satisfying, in the long run it would have been too easy.

Maybe.

I watched Gran Torino as well - about five times, in fact (I took it to work; my guys are all movie buffs).

Very good movie (I'll say 9/10) with lots of social import; Eastwood's character ends up embodying honor, integrity, and redemption.

Better with each viewing, truth.

Also watched The Wrestler; good flick (8/10), moves quickly and doesn't dwell on minutiae (e.g., his daughter's lesbianism is naught but another factor in the main protagonist's alienation from his daughter).

Good entertainment that makes you think a bit.

BTW-

Welcome back, Mickey Rourke, from fifteen or so years in limbo.

Lace up your skates and make more good movies, why don't you.

The Long Kiss Goodnight(1996)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116908/

2/10
No doubt what would result if a distaff amalgamation of The Bourne Identity,Die Hard and Under Siege were directed by a chimpanzee.
And seeing that it was directed by Renny Harlin not far from the truth.

Not totally without merit though because at least it dispels the myth that Samuel L. Jackson has only lately become a bad actor.
