Yeah the referal link is for the site. You can check that yourself by hovering your mouse over the banner and looking at the link in the bottom. The problem is, most people use AdBlock now, and can't see the banner. So he lets everyone know about the referal, so the forum gets that extra little bit of cash to keep running.
