excuse my n00bness here but i dont have a ps2 so dont know anything about this.
if i copy a game onto a normal cd/dvd, will it play on the consol as normal? been reading about having to use something called swop magic or having to hack the chip so it works. is this correct?

Yea you need the swap disc's or a modchip to play a copied ps2 game.

Put in the swap disc, see screen. Remove disc. Put in your backed up copy :)
Modchip is much better than swapdisk
