...I have to vote. Again. <_<
I'm only mentioning it here because I'm feeling rather guilty for not catching at least one of the debates this go around. :P Alternatively, from what I've been witness to, it's (another) fairly nasty drawn-out campaign.
Due to my location, my vote doesn't have much weight. It's depressing. I've also no real idea why I'm posting this. Perhaps too much wine.

I didn't know you liked whine, MN.
I know it is popular in France, where they regularly decant a newly popular vintage of red....white....and blue. ;)

It's terrible puns like this that drive us all to the grape.
Pass the bottle, garcon/

Perhaps too much wine.

Democracy is such a drag. :dabs:
Is voting compulsory where you are?
Posted by: MagicNakor
Nah, it was wine at that time (a La Frenz Sauvignon Blanc), though I've a strawberry daiquiri right now. ;)
My riding is pretty much gauranteed to the Conservatives, so it doesn't matter which way I vote. ;) I'll likely vote for the NDP, although I might vote for the Greens or another lesser-known party. The Liberal candidate here is a total cunt, so I'm not voting for him. :P I wish I were in the riding south of me...the Conservative candidate there is up on smuggling charges, so no one's entirely sure which way the riding will go.
Voting's not compulsory here, though I've never not voted in a provincial/federal election.

Good luck with your vote, MN.
I hope you can escape your polling place without being assailed by exit-pollsters. :)
Posted by: MagicNakor
Haha...I've actually yet to see an exit-pollster. They aren't very important here, as different ridings can have different parties, and our ballots are generally tabulated the same day.
I am worried Stephen Harper's going to form a majority though. :(

why? I think he deserves a chance
Posted by: MagicNakor
Mostly because I've seen much about him over the years that I dislike (and some of it is rather worrisome), regarding social/defense issues. I live in a Conservative BC riding, so I've had that dubious pleasure. As I understand it, he's tuned down his rhetoric somewhat in order to become more palatable to Ontario/Quebec voters, somewhat along the lines of the Red Tories.
If he manages to form a majority, I think it's likely that the previous persona will reemerge, and there wouldn't be anything that could be done about it, which why if he wins, I hope it's as a minority.

Yeah I heard about that guy. Not smart trying to hide those facts from the public.
I'm still undecided on who to vote for on monday.

Alternatively, at least we *know* he's a crook. ;)

And, over here, he'd be a liberal Democrat, which is cool. :D
Posted by: thewizeard
nothing like an honest crook...it's those dishonest ones I worry about, like those that are in power at the moment.
Posted by: j2k4
Okay, MN-
What's the upshot?
Posted by: thewizeard
Do you think he dare tell you with the Eagle hovering high in the sky?

See that's the problem with you.
Why would it matter?
A partisan thinker instead of a thinker.

'Twould be fine; the system is partisan, though, and doesn't accept those who are not.

The upshot of Harper winning? It's rather early to tell...I suppose with the Bloc holding the balance of power he's going to be forced to move more to the centre, and since it's a minority it's unlikely he'll be able to push some of the old Alliance agendas through. NDP gained some seats.
Other than that, I can't really say.
:shuriken:
Posted by: maebach
I cant believe the Bloc won so many seatts !!!1 :o
I was sure that the conservatives would've won.
Posted by: j2k4
Reports are that the new crowd will be friendlier to Bush.
How can this be?
How could such misfits be elected?
Posted by: MagicNakor
Too early to tell what the alliance will do. While that's possible, and would definitely happen had Harper formed a majority, with it being a minority government, I don't forsee it happening overly much. The Conservatives formed the government, but they don't really have any ideological allies in the Bloc.
From what I've seen on American news about the election results, it doesn't appear as though they really understand that the Canadian conservative is still farther on the left than the American one, and seem to equate the Conservatives with the Republicans.
:shuriken:

The idea that the new governmentals will be less hostile to Bush must be at least a bit unsettling.
Ther'll no doubt be mass demonstrations and civil strife over the fact; I mean, the Canadians are reknowned for their radical feistiness, yes? :P

We will quietly and politely ask them to stop, repeat once in a more firm tone, follow-up with an "Oh, all right then," and perhaps invite them down for a doubledouble at Timmy's. ;)

A winning strategy, rife with friendly but lethal intent.
Well done.
