Have I been conned?

I recently won a auction on eBay for a new 4800+ Dual-Core CPU. The seller clearly stated that the manufacturer part number is ADA4800CDBOX. I've recieved the chip but the part number is ADA4800DAA6CD.

Whats so great about the ADA4800CDBOX and why do people demand it?

Boxed CPUs are the retail version.
They come with the heatsink and a three year warranty.
The OEM (unboxed) chip comes bare and carries a one year warranty.

Yes, you got screwed.
Hope he bought breakfast at least.

The chip is in a box and currently unopened. This is the entire code,

ADA4800DAA6CD
CCBWE 0538TPMW

And is there a heatsink in the box?

If you don't want the item, request a refund and explain why. If he/she refuses then report it to eBay. They do care about these type of issues and will will help you.

If you purchased the item with PayPal you can also get a refund through them as they garuntee any purchase paid for via PayPal.

Just be sure to exercise some patience and you'll get what you want. No one wants to help and asshole. ;)

Is it in a box like this:

If you only have the CPU without the cooler then you got conned but the price difference isn't very much.

Posted by: clocker

The price difference and the heatsink are really immaterial in comparison to the extra warranty...

Very true. I forgot about that. :blushing:

Yeah, that's what I have. It's supposed to be a Toledo. The box is unopened and still has the AMD seal. The box is heavy so I assume it contains the heatsink and fan.

Skizo,

I won the CPU from eBay.com and had it shipped to the UK. I don't want to pay another $60 to have it shipped back. The seller has alot of positive feedback. I'm not sure if the CPU I've been sent has overclocking issues. If this 4800+ is inferior to other one's then I can simply auction what I have atm. I did a Google search on the CCBWE 0538 stepping code but I couldn't find anything.

Maybe here. (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=319185)

are you reading the part # from the box?
or from the CPU itself?

you know what, forget it....
if you don't want it, I'll take it off your hands....free of charge :P

Posted by: lynx

That part number is purely for the unboxed chip.

That would seem to confirm what others have suggested, namely that you've read that off the chip itself rather than the box.

Posted by: 121

Yeah, I read that off the chip. I can't see the a part number on the box anywhere. Hopefully I can do some serious cooling and hit 3GHz with it.

So a dual core 4800+ isn't fast enough for you without overclocking?

What are you doing with it?

IMO you shouldn't be overclocking that if you can't even identfy what you have.
