Sony Vaio Stand By problem

Hi
I have a recent Sony Vaio laptop. I have run into a problem with it.
If I put it into Stand By mode, then when I click on the power button to start using the laptop, it does not do anything. It does not come on.
I have to force it to re-start (by pressing the Power button for a while) to start using it again.
Have u come across this problem and how did u solve it.
Thanks

The standby/hibernate function in XP is crap.
We get around this problem by disabling it altogether.

The so-called "standby mode" never has worked very well on any version of Windows.
All it does is write what's in your memory to your hardrive and powers down all but the hardrive and a little current to your processor. And, any scheduled programs will 'cause your PC to "wake-up" to run them.
So since there is software involved, this "theory" just doesn't work 100% of the time. (even Microsoft admits this)
Accept that fact and live with it.
