How to eliminate Firefox popups Once and For All

C/P
Like you, I love Firefox for many reasons, including popup blocking. So over the last few weeks I’ve been surprised to see occasional popups.

It turns out that some clever people figured out that you could launch popups from Flash, getting around the Firefox default settings.

Fortunately, you can get around it:

1. Type about:config into the Firefox location bar.
2. Right-click on the page and select New and then Integer.
3. Name it privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins
4. Set the value to 2.

The possible values are:

* 0: Allow all popups from plugins.
* 1: Allow popups, but limit them to dom.popup_maximum.
* 2: Block popups from plugins.
* 3: Block popups from plugins, even on whitelisted sites.

This really works!

Ever since getting the extension NoScript I haven't seen any popups. NoScript disables Java so you can select the ones you trust.

Didn't realize this said Flash.

I'm using Adblock with G filter set and Symantec firewall with pop up blocker enabled , so haven't had an issue .

But appreciate the effort Zazu , I'll print this out for future use . :)

thank you dude ;) ..

Really really good tip :smilie4:

The downside is that you don't see anything Flash.

Adblock Plus now has an option that puts a tiny transparent tab on anything Flash which will allow you to block the ad, same as an image ad.

A better alternative imo.

:eyebrows:

Yeah you do, you just don't see flash generated pop-ups/pop-overs

e.g. I can still play the flash games in the arcade...

So it can tell the difference then?

I guess that's alright then...

Currently i use ,

Noscript
Adblock element hider
Adblock Filter.G
Adblock Plus (with the following adblock subscriptions)
EasyElement_USA_rick752
EasyList_USA_rick752
ABP Tracking Filter

My firefox is locked down when it comes to ads and popups, recommend to all
if a good site has trouble loading i either give it a temp green light or add to white list for permanent green light.
