i have been playing a bit of guild wars and a lot of world of warcraft. i'm not really much of an RPG fan, but both of these games are incredibly well-designed as far as online RPGs go.
world of warcraft has lovely artistic direction, it's just fun to look around & see how much care has been put into the models/landscapes/textures/etc. and its gameplay is solid & brisk, despite having its fair share of traditional MMO time-sinks (stuff that you know has no other purpose besides distracting you & slowing you down in order to keep you from racing to the end of the game, and to keep you subscribing for months & months).
guild wars has decent visuals, but i think the combat (before WoW lets you have access to level 60+ raids anyway) is a bit more strategic & challenging than WoW's combat, and the fact that each character can play 2 classes simultaneously... it's more interesting/engaging overall. and the synch-up between experience points & quest progression is better -- it's almost transparent. you spend a few hours running quests in a region then, by the time you've completed the most significant quests, your character has enough experience & money to move to the next region. it doesn't give you so much experience/loot that your character outgrows the quests & they stop being challenging, and it doesn't give you so little exp/loot that you have to "grind" (walk around & kill random monsters for experience points) in order to prepare for the next region. experience & progress are so finely tuned in guild wars that you never really need to think about them.

I'm gonna switch gears up a bit. I'm currently playing my Nintendo DS like mad. Puzzle quest has completely monopolized my time for the past day and I just got Chocobo Tales which is kinda like Mario Party with final fantasy characters.
Lunar Knights is fun too.

I gave up on TES4 Oblivion. Lag got annoying after awhile, plus I got sick of the difficulty auto-balance system. (maybe I shoulda tried the mod I heard about, but mods arn't perfect)
I wish character's stayed the same difficulty like i all other RPGs hah.

orange box.
portal was superawesome. almost like a film, because it's like 90 minutes long but has the best characters i've seen in a long while. kinda like all the emotion from a good film, but in a game containing only a computer, a wieghted companion cube and your character.
they've got episodic content perfected in HL2EP2. playing the last battle on that game (on hard btw, i imagine the effect wouldn't be as much other wise, because) really took shit out of me, it was quite a long stage where i could not stop to think at all, had to load up a few times because i did stop to look at something and got owned. down to a close finish that didn't feel artificial. then like 5 minutes of cutscene. and about 15 minutes of me sat in silence after the credits. i needs episode 3
team fortress. thought it would be shit, but it is not, though it does smell a bit of timesplitters. all the kits being so different is annoying cause i'm just constantly being raped cause i want the achievements.
