Keep or Remove the "Shoutbox"?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Should we keep or remove the shoutbox that's in the lounge?

Pros:
It's cool and people seem to like it
Cons:
It might be the reason the forum has been so slow lately, or maybe it's just because of all the guests. :idunno:

Keep it some seem to enjoy it , I have nt had a problem with speed since it was added .

Lose it, it's been gheying up my forum loading time since it was put on and only saves a small number of replies so is basically useless.

If theres any possibility of the forum being affected then dump it for now.
Hadnt connected the two but noticed timeouts since its been up...

... only saves a small number of replies so is basically useless.

It saves all shouts back to the beginning when rossco set it up:

I haven't seen any slowdown that relates to the shoutbox.

I do see that the board has a very annoying stall at intermittent or random times but it's been like that since before the shoutbox.

I voted no even though I don't like it and have it closed.

It doesn't hurt anything and probably cuts down on the spam.

So you voted to have it removed? :dabs:

He meant on the Shoutbox itself, he didn't realise that we had an archive of what was said in there. Though it seems a little fiddly to check to see what people were chatting about last night. :dabs:

Remove it, it sucks at the moment.

Whoopsie.... I read the question wrong. I though it asked if it should be removed, so I voted 'No', not to remove it.

Get rid of it.

Shoutboxes are gay.

Posted by: MagicNakor

I haven't noticed the board being any slower since it was put in. Just the same random stalling VB's noticed, and that was before the shoutbox.

To be honest, I don't really care one way or the other if it stays. :P

What he said.

Id say get rid of it.

Posted by: GepperRankins

keep it. i don't mind having it minimised

I don't think it's the shoutbox that's slowing the forum down, I think it's the 2000+ Yahoo! Slurp Spiders, lurking about, or whatever the fuck they are.

What's that all about

Posted by: Barbarossa

However, if it is the shoutbox that is slowing everything down, because it is damn slow at the moment, then it should go. :(

Posted by: Barbarossa

shoutbox in a popup window? that'd be fun. Could it be done?

I wondered why I got this message.

I think the idea is cool just to say we have it, but really I'd never use it. ;)

Posted by: MagicNakor

That's likely not related to the shoutbox. We've had those messages come up a lot before usually when the board was acting weird...like it is now....:ghostface

Spoke with tech couple days ago. They spent quite a bit of time resolving the slowdowns. Seems it was mostly DNS issues. Since they worked on it seems all is fine...

keep it

Posted by: slatetupelo

Keep it, I usually use shotboxes for quick information and when I'm just bored.
