What About A Verified Books Section ?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: bowiz
... guys what do you think about a Verified Books section ?!?!? .....
.... it could be about :
.... eBooks, audioBooks, and stuff that is on the cd that comes with a book ....
..... I mean ... sometimes u have the whole book on pdf ... and/or stuff and examples about the content of the book .... like source code examples .... images examples ... etc .... plus a lot of useful stuff ....
.... like a lot of extensions on Dreamweaver or Fireworks or Flash Bibles .... plugins ... etc ...
... the problem is that all this stuff is not exactly related to software or music or movies etc ....
..... stoi started a thread (http://www.kazaalite.ath.cx/bb/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=6373) on the subject in the Request section ....
.... but I thought discuss it here would be better ....
.... to the Admins: your opinion about that ?!?!? ...

I think it's a good idea, the only problem I see, is that I don't know if there will be enough posts to make it worth it. Audio books are just harder to get a hold of. Maybe a section of "Misc. Verifieds," where audio books, eBooks, and anything not classified in the others could go.

... that's why I started this thread ... :D ... just to have an idea about the "level of interest" ...

.... it could work ... and solves the problem about where to post verifieds that have nothing to do with existing Verified sections ....

I'd have to buy an e-pad. Books are cheap. (you can buy them locally as cheap as stinking mackerel.) And books are easier to read. You can also read them in the bathtub without fear of their fate if you fall asleep
However, I would love to discuss literature and books!
Anybody in?

.... I double crossed u !!! ... :D  ....
... I just thought the feedback on the subject would have been quicker here than there ....
.... and for love of correctness I mentioned and linked your thread at the top of this one ...
...... and mentioned and linked this thread in the one u started ....
..... let's hope Paul and VB agree on the proposal .... :D
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
... @ decard ...
.... about the cheap ... true !!!... :D
... and even non-cheap versions could become cheap by sharing ....
.... u buy one and get what other ppl bought ....
...... we can arrange something ....

Just what do you call the little gizmo that I assume that you would stick the floppy in and scroll why you lay in bed and read -- 'cause I really dislike reading off the computer screen, but I can see some advantages to a little half-inch thick screen thingy about the size of a magazine...you wouldn't need to have a light on to read...unless it was LCD or something...
Just guessed that it would be called an e-pad but checked on the web and those are digital drums...tried e-books but all I found was content--
There is such a thing, isn't there? What's it called and how much are they? (Yeah, like all I need is another electronic toy)
+ I dunno, I like paper and ink and typefaces and flipping pages...

I think it's a real good idea... I've got about a zillion audio books and would like a place to share them...

I would suggest, that if enough people really want this, that it would take more of an organized approach. Maybe members could coordinate the obtaining of these types of files from various other sources. I know the eDonkey network has some. I think I've seen some books in pdf format over there, but I'm with deckard on this one. I may search through a reference title with my computer, but I'm definitely not inclined to reading a novel for enjoyment on my pc.
Then after enough misc. content has been obtained and posted, maybe in the can section, we could see if there's enough interest in them to warrant it's own section.
I'm actually partial to downloading historical political speeches. I've found some collections on fasttrack, but the rips aren't usually very good.

1) I don't think many people download eBooks from Kazaa
2) Verifieds are no really needed, because who would give an eBook a fake name?

yes i know bowiz, like i said in my post i was only joking :D plus ive noticed as soon as i post in a thread or post a new thread no one replys, feels like whatever i say is going down like a lead balloon
also on the subject of ebooks, i wouldnt want to sit there and say read lord of the rings (over 1000 pages) from my pc id rather have the book but for things like programming or windows or even self motivating books it might be usefull.
I know a few ppl who have metioned audio books in this forum and somewhere to post them, i dont think its the fact that they want a verified version (ones that arnet fake) its just the fact that with a sig2dat link it would be a lot easier to find them on kazzaa.
as for the comment (dont know how to put 2 seperate quotes in here :P ) that books are cheap enough, well so are albums, games, some apps and going to the cinema to see a film isnt all that expensive. so whats the point of using kazzaa unless all you are after are applications that retail for over £50 in the shops.
well thats my gripe for today.
ps. lets see how many ppl post after this  :D :P

... that's what I think too ...
... I love paper books and buy a lot of them ... mainly about programming and system administration recently... but sometimes I'm really disappointed by the purchase ... so ... having an e-book version u can have at least an idea ... before u buy it .....
... and often u just need a section of the book content ...
.... but there's another reason I couldn't substitute paper books with electronic ones ....
.... I can't see myself in the bathroom reading on a Palm ....
ps. lets see how many ppl post after this  :D :P
... I'm contributing ... :D

Audio books are a different deal altogether. That might be a worthwhile section. And I hope this is not a morbid comment, but there are sight-impaired people out there that could benefit from it.
So just what is the txt or doc file reader called? A 'pad'? Does it use a transmissive or a reflective screen?

I have a large collection of RPG gaming sourcebooks, and these seem to be very popular downloads...I get more downloads off of them than I do from songs and movies combined.

ME ME ME!!!
Finally, a literary discussion, I love it!!!
starting a new topic now!!

Isnt that type of discussion what the lounge is for??
I seem to recall some quite deep topics there in the past.
But there is a call for 'books', my AD&D stuff and anarchists cookbook always seem to be in demand, although personally I prefer paper/ink for reading.

I like the audio books for long trips with the kids, can't afford one of those hi-tek DVD players for the mini-van and audio books are cool, kids get interested or fall asleep, both are fine with me. Normally we would just sign some tapes out of the library, however having them burned to disc where we can more easily jump around and not having to mess with the old tapes is very cool. I would say at a minimum start a string in the verifieds section for this, people could just add to the string, that way we would not have to worry about Paul and VB's having to create a whole new section.

... right ... Verified Music could be the place to post verified audio books ... eventually Verified Software & Games for eBooks .... and the Lounge for just discussing books or authors in general ...
... as Paul posted it's true that just a few people download books or audio books and it's rare to find a fake ...
... my idea about the subject was to keep what is available organized and ordered somewhere ... but I perfectly know the matter is not as popular as about movies or games ...

Think you just start a thread, and keep editing your first verified post. Just look at the verified post from DAWN. That way you can keep it organized and neat. --DAWN-- Gamestuff (http://www.kazaalite.ath.cx/bb/index.php?act=ST&f=15&t=3475) Just to give you an idea!

Changed my mind...due to recent input I think that I would like to see a seperated books section. I think that I would like to buy that palm pilot, or something like it.
