Speaking of operating systems that are downloaded , do these have to be burned to cdor can you exexcute into an empty partition ?

depending on what you download. I would perfer to burn to cd and then install from there. But there is nothing to say you can not unzip an os to a hard drive some place and install from there.

Yes its better to burn it to cd in case something goes wrong with the OS. and yes u can just install it from another partition
