Packet Sizes Whilst Dl'ing Change..

Maybe i think too much (or not enough), however heres the puzzle:
This usually happens when DL'ing from several users. Whilst DL'ing from lets say "user@kazaa", plus a couple of others, i notice that i request for instance 2048kb from "user@kazaa". After the progress meter reaches 100% i will continue to DL from the others and then after a few minutes it will go back to "user@kazaa" and request perhaps 248kb. This goes on untill i have finished.

The question is therefore, what or who decides the size of the packets to be requested and why not request the whole lot at once? As i said in the Topic Description, its not a problem, its just puzzling

If the problem was that the download stops at some point at a particular user, then i can understand the jumping around to find another one, but that dosnt seem to be the case either.

Any of you gurus got any ideas?

I has to do with the multi-source downloading. Using smaller packets makes it more easy to download from multiple sources at once.

But why exactly those presice sizes are chosen? I have no idea.

Thx Paul

One theory i have is that its a combination of the available bandwidth between the downloader and the provider of the file, plus of course the state of the internet at that particular time. I notice also that after a search is done, it shows in the results the bandwidth of a particular user - what the heck then is "bandwidth 1". Seems like that would take days to dl from :(
