The Stat part of www.k-lite.tk can know what ISP I have? That is pretty scary. Can it find out other things about me just from me going to a website?

Its all about "cookies" and such. But K-lite is not a vicious bloke, its probably just for your nick and pass ;)
Thats the bad thing about cookies. Some bad sites use them to collect info about your surfing habits, which is why its a good thing to clear them every once i a while !

Our cookies are just for the auto login function. You can check this with a cookie manager etc. and look what cookies are set by the address "kazaalite.ath.cx". The nedstat counter doesn't need a cookie i think. It works just with loading the picture. Finding out your ISP ist not such a problem. Just trace your IP and you'll see it.

It all works with IPs.

Go to http://www.whatismyip.com to find out yours.

All ISPs, Universities, Multinationals, etc have their own IP ranges. So most of the time it is easy to find out where (State, Country) an IP is located.

But don't worry to much, they don't know where you live. (Number 4, right?  )

hehe!

if you have a scum ISP, and you get tracked by RIAA, they might give up your info, but thats against most consumer rights in your contract with the ISP

so i doubt it

If they are small they are vulnerable, on the other hand if they are bigger they are going to be better behaved in terms of protecting your "consumer rights". If it is a bigger ISP the misbehaviour I would think would be more likely to be intentional because they have more resources ie they know what they are doing, and for a specific reason, more resources, more access to Lawyers. The large corporations want more regulations....they have the means to handle more regulations too, unlike smaller corporations. The large corporations can use the leftist rhetoric to control things too. To say that the Republicans are the tools of big business has some foundation to it, but all I know is that I don't know anymore. It is all too confusing!

More regulations do help the consumer in some ways but it is obvious they are written by the reps of the big corps so are probably always gonna favour the big corporation. They have the power and influence to get them 'written' the way they want. They get tax exemptions...etc...If you can extrapolate from big corps to ISPs think of where a lot of the big drug companies are located....eg Upjohn, ...etc..Puerto Rico...they get special tax exemptions.

Bottom line is though, in my humble and worthless opinion, I dunno. Your guess is as good as mine. Hopefully "scum ISPs" don't do that sort of thing. You can't legislate for morality as the cliche goes.

The Govt. can bring pressure to bear upon them. The bigger ones can 'buy off' but the smaller ones can just slip under the raider ....who knows???

Okay #1 let's face it- your IP and your p2p thing are not really that synonimous okay? It's really hard to hide your IP from software that runs directl to and fom your hd, for real.

But it's funny that today I have seen so many concerns about IP# and coming from the sites I do and all, it's kinda common knowledge.

Lots of people wanna know what you do with your pc. Deal with it. Facts of life as it were. Look, if you are "getting over" by using a p2p for your music and video, then it is the same thing with spoofing or changing your IP. Spend time, learn, and in the end you are still but a small fish in the sea. Albeit a very hostile sea at times.

And now, the latest news is that Mr George Bush esq wants to instigate a government institute to "monitor" the Internet for "subversive activities" - and believe me people - he probably already does, he just wants approval now so as to get more $$$'s for funding it - oh my gosh :o

It is getting freaking worse. There have already been many casualties of this. Go to the ACLU web page and go surfing. Scarey stuff.

If they get closer to you, they get closer to me and that can't happen!

Long live the Data Protection Act(UK) but how long that will hold them only time will tell!
