Bandwidth Speed Limitation

I just helped a friend set up Kazaa lite, 2.0.0 (same version I use) and the Bandwidth column of his Search window shows nothing larger than 128 or 234 or something oddly low like that. (as opposed to the 544 and higher numbers that I see on my machine).
Is there something in his setup or on his computer that limits the speed or appears to limit the speed of downloading? He DOES have ZoneAlarm (the freebee version) on his PC; we turned it off in the systray...but does this have an effect on speed and/or does it have to be deleted completely or........? heeeeeeeeeeelp, please. Thanks.

His connection effects his bandwith results in searches. ZoneAlarm doesn't effect download speeds. If your friend does have broadband, I would recommend trying SpeedGuide.net (http://www.speedguide.net).

The big questiono of course is do you use dial up, DSL or cable modem? T3 connection at school? Really, if you have broadband, you can expect pretty good bandwidth, though the highest I have been able to achieve, personally, it 200+ kbs. Fast but not as fast as I would like.
But then again, since most people are on dial up, and I download a lot of files that are common (new movies and shit) I would have to think I am being lagged by dial up users. No offense guys, but dial up really screws with p2p facilities.
On the ZoneAlarm thing, I have the Pro version and honestly I did notice that without it running I do get better download speeds. Not sure why that is since the firewall functions in a very specific purpose and should have nothing to do with the information traveling through my kazaalite port.
