I'm gonna buy 1 or 2 500GB HD(s). But im not sure which HD I should buy.
The store where I am probably gonna buy my new hardware has these:
Samsung HD 500GB SATA-2 7200rpm 16MB
Western Digital 500GB S-ATA2 WD5000KS
Seagate 500GB ST3500630AS 7200.10 S-ATA2 16MB
Which HD is the 'best' ?
I currenly have 1 Maxtor 320GB Diamondmax S-ATA2 7200rpm 16MB

My vote goes to the Seagate.
Quiet and 5 year warranty.
The 320GB version is a better choice if you consider price per GB.

I like Samsung HDD, b/c they are silent

I like seagate, between the other two i'd pick the cheaper one as they're both good companies. :)

Seagate

Normally I would say Seagate as well but just this week I installed two Samsung 500's into a customer's PC and was impressed with their speed, price (Newegg was selling them for $100 apiece) and silence- they are significantly quieter than my Seagate 250's.

Everything is quiter than Seagate (got two 250GB 7200.10)
That was the first and last time I bought Seagate, next time I'll stick with Samsung :yup:
The new HDD from WD (the AAKS series) outperforms everything there is on the market. But a mere pc user won't feel a difference in performance between WD and Samsung or Hitachi, you will see it only in few benchmarking programs.
You want 5 year warranty - Seagate
You want performance - WD (AAKS)
You want silence - Samsung>Hitachi

kojiro you're right. I would go with WD, I got a coulpe of them myself and the're are just perfect!

they removed the seagate from their pricelist
They only have a Seagate 500GB 7200.9 S-ATA2 8MB.
The other 2 both have 16mb cache

Maxtor is now owned by ...
Seagate.

Yup!!! Maxtor bought Seagate... or vice versa. I don't touch Seagate or Maxtor (personal preference and experience). I generally go with WD and just bought a new 500 a couple months ago. 16 mb cache is definitely a good idea on such a large drive.
I want a couple of the terrabyte drives out now!! LOL :)

Just to let you know, Seagate kept the Maxtor line because some customers perfer it but the Seagate sector doesn't come in to contact with Maxtor so Seagate is fine/better than their Maxtor hard drives.
