Getting Fast Download
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: Paul
The key to fast downloads is getting more sources.
Don't use Speed Up for that. There is a far more effective way!
Just go the the search tab and search for the same file as which you are already downloading. Use the AutoSearchMore tool when needed. Search until you have 10 or 20 sources.
Now go back to the traffic tab. Notice that your file is downloading faster because it uses some of the sources that you found in your search.

most of the time you won't get to 20 sources. still when i do the download isn't very fast.
Posted by: TedKord
A few good sources are better than a ton of poor sources.
I've maxxed out at 40 sources on a few DLs, and pulled in at about
75-90Kbs, but on other files I've gotten 120-185Kbs pulling from
3-5 sources.
But, 40 poor sources will always be better than 8 poor sources!
Kudos once again to RandomNut!

i agree with you but there aren't a lot of good sources

where can u find the autosearchmore tool paul?
Posted by: zapjb
Thanks Paul. Excellent Tip.

This is a very usful tip. What I did, before you posted this was just do a search for the game I want. Then if it was the same size and had more users, I would rather download that and get rid of my other download... Got what Im saying?

nice tip paul
 why did i not think of that
:D

This works great....beats all the speedup tools out of the water.
Shame it only appears to work with 1 download at a time (unless its a wider search that covers 2 or so downloads...eg 28 days later disc2, 28 days later disc 2 and just searching for 28 days later)

Great tip man, i should try it...
Posted by: tilen76
I've been using that method myself for quite some time now. Works great, especially with the cracked version (40 sources max).
The only problem is, you have to be present and keep searching, especially if you are downloading more than just one file.
When you are away I guess using speed up tools is still the only option.
Eventhough I don't really trust those tools, don't really believe they do any good.

Use the AutoSearchMore tool.. :P
Posted by: tilen76
AutoSearchMore tool? Have I missed something?
I believe I'm quite up to date with all the KaZaa stuff, but never heard of that before.
Where do I get that?
I hate when people are talking about something I don't know anything about.
Help me please, I want to do auto search, I mean I don't want to do manual search any more.

It's bundled with the latest k++ full installer

Thanks El_Jefe.
I'm still using k++ beta 1. I guess it's time to install the newest version.
I just hope it will read my partially downloaded .DAT files.

Excellent tip Paul - tried it - it actually works ;)

Great tip. I have been using that for a while now.

It's not working for me, I get like 90 users in the search, but not one of them is added to the download...
Posted by: sharpnet
OK, so I have an idea,
After you have started a download use KazaaSearch (http://kazaasearch.netfirms.com/)
and add the file you are downloading but enter something stupid in the exlude-box under "post-search filter"
So if I'm downloading an episode of "Dark Angel" then I set up an item in kazaasearch that searches for my dark angel -episode and presses "search-more" e.g 5 times but in the exlude box I enter "Dark angel"
so kazaaSearch will never start a download but it will search for the file until I stop it.
And as the kazaasearch tool is running you can let it do what speed up usually does and you can go to sleep and enjoy your files when you wake up :)

Thats only because (and this has been said many times before, but here goes again) you only get a list of users who have the particular file you are looking for - this dos'nt in any way guarantee that they have a free slot for you to download from ;)

thank you paul my man, yea, i had the autosearch thingy , but i didnt know it was specifically called that
thanks for the tip too, finally a good tip in the tip section

I've found that the greatest...and I mean GREATEST thing about the autosearchmore tool is that it helps locate RARE and HARD TO FIND files...
It really makes me happy knowing that I CAN find a whole album by obscure hardcore bands from the 80's....very happy.
I haven't really had much luck getting more than 12 users to DL from anyway...but like someone said before....better than I had 12 rather than none.

but I bet having a PL of 1000 helps :)
By the way, I've tried this, I got 122 users on a File, PL of 1000, and it slowed down!
it did take a lot more sources though, they were just all no good :)

Yepp - same thing for me sometimes. It would be great if the "AutoSearch" could even find the fastest users as well :P

This is a cool tip, but maybe speedup is still kinda useful. Like when your downloading a bunch of stuff and your going to be away from the computer for quite some time. So you won't be able to autosearch every file. I think that's a good time to use the speed up.

Yep, just leave it running for hours, sooner or later it will find something.
'Brazil' from Terry Gilliams, rare stuff I think, downloaded from 7-11 users...
Felix the Cat (I know it, I'm obsessed): it found 8 titles...
Great tip Paul, we're stupid and you're smart! ;)

Just remember that running the AutoSearchMore tool for longer than a couple of minutes can be a real waste of bandwith.
Both of yours and that of the supernodes!
Posted by: Bender
You're right Paul, I found out that leaving it on for more than 5-10 minutes IS a waiste of time and bandwith.

I've been using the AutoSearch for a while now, and it's really great for someone like me who likes searching for obscure stuff. Wish it had been around when I was looking for "The Eggplant that Ate Chicago"! Took me a couple of weeks to finally find a source that would allow me to download it.
Kudos to Jock for AutoSearch!
I often use the AutoSearch to search for stuff using the artist's name and the album name as search words. If that doesn't give enough sources for a track, then I'll try the artist's name and the track name. AutoSearch usually comes up with what I need sooner or later, although with the stuff I'm looking for, it can take a while.

yepp!!! autosearch fine !! good job !

Excellent tip! I never liked using speed up anyway; it doesn't respect paused downloads sometimes.

From what I am experiencing it is best to leave AutoSearch on as long as you keep getting more results. And by that I mean 20 more sources in 5 minutes. That can be even longer than 15 minutes. (But on average not much longer).
Then - when I stop searching (and this is the important question) shall I leave the search window intact? Does it work this way: all found sources will be checked for empty download slots as long as search window has them on?
Posted by: Schizophonic
even though there might be alot of sources, some those people will be smart enough to have a firewall. And those with firewalls can't be used for downloads! <_<

You may close you search window. As soon you find an user, KaZaA will quickly try it out and the user will also be stored.
Some message 4 Schizophonic; I've a firewall but there are a lot of people downloading from me.

I've been downloading a certain file today (behind enemy lines) and left autosearch on for half an hour or so, it came up with 715 files found but the d/l is still only using 3-6 users. Why? I have maxed everything up in the sttings but to no avail. :(

seed/leach ratio ;)
Posted by: khaled2000
i agree with you but there aren't a lot of good sources
Posted by: OmaRin0
thank for the tip :),
if u download from private torrent tracker, 1 source and u will download +500kb/s..
