Why is F** so slow!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Any users/tech-types of F** out there who can help??

I'm trying to log on to F**, and it is impossibly slow. Same issue I had with FSC the other day. A fix was suggested, and it worked very well, -- I added something to my hosts file and everything loaded fine.

I'm running IE which is likely my first mistake. I know I should switch to firefox, but not right now.

Any suggestions on how I can load the pages faster???

thank you very much

Are you using the secure page?

Although it has slowed down again this week, it was really fast there for a while.

It has always been slow for me. Not painfully slow or aggravating, but slow.

I assume its a coding issue or script issue and not something you can fix.

Just use https:// and you should be good.

@Skizo: The site used to be slow because there was a coding error but that was fixed some time ago.

It was slow last month, last week, yesterday, and 5 minutes ago.

It's always slow.

''Most of you have probably noticed the massive speed increase on site. We made a few code adjustments that should completely eliminate that issue from now on. To celebrate our boost........''

It use to be slow to me until they announced what benchez just said but now its faster. Not as fast as some sites but fast enough.

Now he more slow from once.

Most of the slowness has to do with the location. The server is hosted in Asia, which means that there are more hops than an EU or US based server. The server does use page compression to speed delivery, but ultimately the distance the packets have to travel, including acknowledgements, will have a major effect on speed.

For me opera works great, if you want my advice...
it's got Rss support, widgets, BitTorrent, IRC chat, tabs,
no Pop-ups integrated..
whatever....
im not advertising but really i used to use IE7, Firefox and stuff
but at the end it would always fucked up my internet and Comp as well errors and stuff like that.
So i found opera and it's been one year im using this and it works great !!!

This is a widget that i use to check the security holes on opera :

EDIT: 2 mins later and its back up :)

Just use https:// and you should be good

Thank you all for your replies and offers of suggestion....Now comes my stupid follow-up questions.

Respecting the site rules on privacy of URL's, (and because I'm not yet using IRC on these channels) can you please pm me the links that you mention here. I probably know exactly what you mean by the *secure page* and the *https* link once I see what you mean by this, but for now I'm unsure what you are referencing.

Thank you very much!!!!

ps. Opera?? I've never heard of this browser. An interesting question for those sites that favour Firefox ie FSC and others, how would your pages load with the Opera browser, or do you prefer your members to stick to Firefox.

Thank you again!

speed is fine using https

Posted by: 0Ri0N

http:// is working fast already.

Greetings,

Figured out the problem. I'm at work right now and noticed that the tech squad had already installed firefox on my computer, so I logged in with this browser instead.

Holy Moly!! It works like a charm. No problems whatsoever.

IE sucks eggs that's all I can say.

I can't close this thread, but I don't expect it to be a hot one!

Thanks to all who provided advise but problem fixed now!

Firefox wins again :P

And Adblock Plus to get rid of those nasty ads :)

Posted by: kallieb

what a treasure this thread turned out to be.

thank you gentleman..one and all!!

OK...fasterfox and adblock plus These two on my to-do list when I get home. If I had a smilie with flowers I would insert here!

like Skizo said it is always slow..

Actually Opera can act as Firefox and as IE as well for me it's really the best browser ever...people like firefox but i prefer Opera, it doesn't need adblock and such everything is integrated but you can always add some more ;)
And updates well they are updating very often i think the last two updates were between a month...
well enough talk, opera is powerful ;)

Posted by: fstrulz

Opera is great... But I prefer FF because of its versatility when it comes to its add-ons/extensions. :D

Posted by: TheFoX

Damn. Just realised that F** referred to *TN and not FSC. All these asterisks are confusing the issue.

By the way, don't install FasterFox as it may cache pages, but if everyone were running it, then the servers would get bogged down with multiple requests, and it could bottom out apache (seen it happen before with Gator).
