A company called Turbine Entertainment is developing the game. I doubt even Blizzard could pull this off as free online play. Besides, they don't typically develop games like this...

There is a LOTR RTS/RPG coming out next year called The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/lordoftheringswarotr/) it looks a good as WC3. I've looked for a demo because there is supposed to be a beta version out there but i couldnt find nutting.

Its supposed to include the history of the ring based on the Silmarillion. I hope they include the story of the Hobbit and u can be the bad guys (Sauron, maybe even Morgoth).
