I like to play my Xbox 360 games, generally, in short bursts. Is it safe to just leave the disc in the Xbox 360 for an extended period of time?

As long as the 360 doesn't move, it shouldn't make a difference.

I know that but I mean when the console if off.

I don't see any reason why not.

No harm as long as the console is off, the only time I see it being a problem is if you have a disc that is at a menu screen and the console is on and constantly accessing the disc to play a music track or video or something, that would just be needless wear on your hardware.

if you the warning in the box, you would know that you are not supposed to move the 360 from vertical to horizontal while the console is on ! this causes the spinning disc to tilt and touch a nearby component of the dvd drive, causing the scratch during the spin ! This makes it look like a ring of death ! i think we should call it a ring of stupidity because the only way to achieve such a ring is because your dumb !
