New DVD Film site
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)Posted by: dvdspider
Hi all, ive created a DVD Film usenet crawler which i think you guys might enjoy. Its been a headache of mine trying to work out which films id like from the all the releases that are put up on usenet everyday so i ended up doing something about it :-)
I would really appreciate your feedback on it, but dont want to spam or break any rules so i wont post a URL unless a mod or someone says i can?
Cheers.

Hey man, sounds good. PM me the URL and I'll check it out.
Posted by: dvdspider
hi mate, pm sent.
cheers.
Posted by: Broken
I imagine there would be some intrest here to see what you have.
Why not just post the url in this thread?
Posted by: dvdspider
ok cool, its dvdspider.co.uk (http://www.dvdspider.co.uk) - your feedback would be really appreciated. hope some of you find it useful.
cheers.

It doesn't look bad.
NZBs for the listings would help a lot.
Till then... not for me.
Posted by: dvdspider
yeah, i know what you mean. after seeing dvdrs and a few other film nzb sites taken down im a bit apprehensive but i could link to other nzb sites that have the dvds - that surely is well above board...

Easies might be to link to the package on binsearch or something? Then you don't have to worry about copying somebody else's work.
Or else just link to posts on this forum if you are allowed.

ok nice one - ill sort that now and have it ready in an hour or so.

There's already a great forum that's been around for years. They review DVD usenet posts, talk about fixes and anything usenet movie related. They are one of the main groups posting DVD scene releases to usenet.
Binaryinvasion.com / altbinariesdvdr.com
Check it out sometime.
Posted by: dvdspider
cool, psxcite - ive not heard of that forum. will deffo check it out.
ive added a simple search on the site now, it seems to work pretty well, but filenames aren't usually the greatest on usenet so will be a bit hit and miss.
cheers.
Posted by: dvdspider
the reason i dont display the dvd cover is that imdb doesnt allow you to display or link to their covert art :-(
if you click the title of each film, that'll take you directly to imdb.
Posted by: dvdspider
ok, everything seems stable enough now so ive set the site to automatically update every 30 minutes.
cheers.

looks pretty good. I prefer usenet for films
Posted by: sksksk1
looks good. any chance list dvdrip as well?
Posted by: Detale
I also think it's a nice site. If it's possible DVD rips would go nicely also.

+3 on DVDRips;

Posted by: dvdspider
thanks for the feedback :) ok, ill get a dvdrip section sorted today, should be pretty straightforward.
cheers.
ok, the dvdrip section is up - i've included all sources so there will a lot of the newer releases in there.
enjoy :)

hi all, quick update - ive found a way to directly link to the nzb for every dvd and dvdrip. im gonna do a bit more testing (after i get smashed tonight and tomorrow ;)) and should have it up by monday.
cheers, p.s. CMON RICKY HATTON!
Posted by: Broken
It looks a lot better than the first time I veiwed it.
Keep going with it.

Looks good. I shall add to my favourites. Many thanks for your work.

Hi, i've added the improved NZB searching. There are 3 different types of search, they rank in accuracy, with FILEname being the best and TITLEname being the least accurate. I know it would be easier to just host the NZB's but i have no cash for legals ;)
If you have any other feature suggestions/improvements just let me know and ill see what i can do.
Cheers.

hi ericab, good idea mate! ive been thinking of putting up some more search filters but wasn't sure of the best way to do it but i really like the idea of being able to select the score you can filter by. ill get it sorted over the next few days.
glad you're all enjoying the site!

nice one mate, looks great
Posted by: dvdspider
hi all, i have added a results filter so you can sort all films by date added to usenet, imdb rating and film title. once set, this will stay persistent until you click one of the main logo's or change your preference. ive also extended the title search so you can search within a genre.
one thing that became apparent when testing the sorting is that it can look like there are a lot of duplicate titles, but each one is a different release and are sub-sorted by the date added to usenet (so the newest first). i may add some sort of funk to truncate multiple entries of a single title, but i started to consider it and it made me want to cry. so i stopped thinking about it. then drank some lager. it helped.
let me know how you get on, and if there is anything else you want added :)
cheers!

hi, ive found a way to do the same for tv rips - i.e. it would have show the plot synopsis for each episode, the series and episode number etc.
do you think that would be a worthwhile addition to the site?
Posted by: dvdspider
hi, ive added a few new features. probably most notable is ive included the nfo for each film if its available on usenet - you can view it without leaving the page so no pop ups or anything. ive also added a contact form so you can hit me with abuse or hopefully some features you'd like to see. ive got a lot planned over the next month so keep your eyes peeled :)
Posted by: gaedeventer
oi mate im curious about your site !:)
Posted by: lorrebreaker
Interesting site, good work.
One to keep an eye on.
Posted by: dvdspider
Hi all,
Some updates for you:
Upgraded the database and re-spidered all films picking up more information.
You can now view the extended plot synopsis for each film (if available).
Loads more nfo's indexed.
Added a new NFOname NZB search - very reliable.
Genre search improved, now searches all sub genres
More to follow :-)
Ok, HD-DVDs are now indexed, enjoy!
Posted by: dvdspider
A final few updates:
You can now view an example filename by clicking on the movie title.
Added imdb and dvd cover search links to each film.
I need a drink after all that :)

Anyone still use this site. Updates appear to be lacking. Shame it seemed a good index.
Posted by: NfoGuru
very useful, keep it going!;)
Posted by: dvdspider
hi all, well its been a while but ive resurrected the site :)
thanks for all for the emails/comments - it helped me with the effort to get it all back online. the site now has 4 sections, its completely server driven so if i fall off the planet for a while it wont matter as the server will keep things updated!
as always, if theres stuff you would like to see just let me know.
cheers (http://dvdspider.co.uk)!

Great news.
Posted by: dvdspider
Hi, ive been adding more stuff to the site. Two decent additions, the first being the multiple release search. By each film title you will now see a folder search icon: http://www.dvdspider.co.uk/images/folder_find.png
By clicking this, it will automatically search for all the releases for your chosen film, in its chosen format. Its a handy features cos i always like to compare all the available releases for a film i like the look of to make sure i get the best copy :)
The second, smaller feature is just a big dirty listbox on the right hand side which allows you to quickly view every film thats available in the chosen format. Nice and simple way of trawling through all the films.
More features to be added soon...

hi all, another update for you. i have added a web 2.0 ish autocomplete on the search box. its pretty useful at showing you if the film you want is available without actually having to search for it.
ive found it lets you know of a few other films that you forgot about that you actually want :) lets say you want a 1080p version of The Dark Knight, by just typing "dark" there's a few more suggestions:
http://www.dvdspider.co.uk/images/autocomplete.png
the max suggestions it will show is 5, but the more you type, the more it narrows down the matches.
hope you find it useful!
