Hi guys, im sure this has been asked before but I wanted to know will PAL format work on North American DVD players?? I have never downloaded PAL dvd's before cuz I wasn't sure if they'll work on my DVD player or not.

I want to download a few PAL DVD's n check it out, but I need some input before I do cuz I would hate if I grab a couple n my DVD player doesn't support the format :frusty:

The short answer is no.

Although you can purchase DVD players that will play PAL, the odds are that you're current player will not.

However, they aren't too expensive if you want to invest in one.

What brnad and model # is your player?

Look that up and then go here-> http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers and check if it plays pal and you could also see what kind of support it has.

Even if a PAL DVD will not play in the DVD player connected to your TV, you can still play a PAL DVD using software on your PC, such as VLC.

Or you could convert from PAL to NTSC and burn it after. http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Convert_PAL_NTSC_DVD_page1.html

cuz I download DVD's to watch em on my TV, not PC. I prefer watching em on a 65" rather then a 22" screen :P

You tell him "no" when you don't even know kind of DVD player he has?

@RoSsoNeRI - Yes, your DVD player will play PAL formatted videos & movies.

The comments say it all -

For the money, this player is very hard to beat. Can play anamorphic PAL DVD's like a dream, no issues at all. I've tried Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, BenQ, Ritek, TDK, and Ridata burned DVD media, both + & -, also +DL media, and it all played excellently.

Can't go wrong with this player. My biggest issue was being able to play PAL DVDs on my DVD player, this baby does it all.

Played PAL sources without any problem - very smooth conversion.
