my dad wants to buy a notebook and the notebook comes integrated with a 802.11g wireless network card, but our router is 802.11b and i was wondering if it will still work with our router?

Yes, it is backwards compatible. It just won't be as fast as the 802.11G standard theoretical speed.
Nothing to be concerned about though, because for general surfing, the difference will not be noticeable.
