Sound Volume

As every room on this forum (games, music, movies) uses some aspect of sound i didnt know wher to post this but heres my question,
which sounds better?:
1.Speakers set to max and the volume turned down on the computer
or
2. volume set to max on the pc and media player and control the volume by ajusting the speakers?
which gives better sound definithon and quality?

In my experience nothing works best when set at max. That's true of all things, try to go through life at 80% and you'll find more depth in everything.
Sorry, getting a bit philosophical this morning, but it does apply to your question.
