Recommend me some ambient music

I was browsing this site (http://desktopography.customize.org/index2.html) and was enjoying the music but admittedly don't know much about the genre.
Clicking to the second page will display 4 songs in the lower left corner, all of which are nice.
Anyone able to make some good recommendations? Hopefully something popular enough to find on a file sharing app. :whistling

the ghosts album is kinda 'ambient', its definitely not industrial.. wikipedia calls it

Dark ambient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_ambient)the only album I've been aware of being classified as ambient was Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works vol2 and it was god awful because of the lack of beats the first one had.
If you don't already have 'Music Has the Right to Children' by Boards of Canada, it's labelled as
IDM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music), Ambient Techno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_Techno), Trip Hop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trip_Hop)', but serves its purpose as soothing background music that isn't distracting at all.

definitely aphex twin. the original 'selected ambient works' cd is my favorite. this (http://www.last.fm/tag/ambient) last.fm tag might help more.

Ambient is NOT house music. :blink:
No offense but house/dance/trance is about as awful as music can possibly get in my opinion. Nothing in that list is anything close to ambient music. :dabs:

go to that page. every time you visit it'll give different suggestions of well reviewed ambient music, and also has a list of top albums and songs. allmusic is the best music site out there imo. The ones like pitchfork are a joke
