I keep hearing that "this is the year of Playstation 3"...nearly every exclusive the PS3 has can be countered by the X360, for example MGS4 => Splinter Cell: Conviction, FFXIII => Lost Odyssey. The only "crazy" exclusive that PS3 has this year is MGS4 and that's it...
To me I believe that the PS3 is overrated and has under-delivered.
I'm sorry but 2008 won't be the year of the PS3.

I understand that the PS3 is beginning to outsell the X360, but that's because of Sony's good marketing strategy and not due to their games...I also think that the general public is misinformed and will stay with PS3 because of the success of PS2.
It probably is there year for console sales but I still think 360 games are better.

main reason a portion of the people are buying ps3 is because of blu ray movies, not because of its games.
microsoft will definitely need to lower the price of their xbox if they want to stay in 2nd place.

I think the only way for the PS3 to succeed is for it to have really, really great exclusives. I think most people that are buying the PS3 buy it because it can play Blu-Ray, though >.>
And I prefer Xbox Live over PSN. Sure, PSN is free, but Live is more feature-complete and I think it has a better community than PSN (neither are very good though =/)

What features does Xbox live have that PSN doesn't. I have played on a friends PS3 online quite a lot and it seems pretty good. Anyway even if there are a lot of differences I don't think PSN is too far behind Xbox live, is it?

XBL is on another level then PSN for now but we'll see what happens when Home is released, if its as good as XBL then I guess M$ has no choice but to make XBL (gold) free or release something else.

Kotaku.com had something about Home, and in it's Beta stage, it is horrid, apparently. I don't quite remember why though, or how far into Beta it is.

I don't think so. I think the Xbox 360 has already established its userbase, with it having been cheaper than the PS3 for such a longtime. Not to mention, everyone who plays online already has their set of friends, and they're already comfortable with Live. They don't want to have to change over to a new thing. If your friend is on Live, you know that they'll always be on Live.

Yep I agree that Xbox 360 has an already established set of users, but I think that most people looking to buy one of the two, maybe not right now but in a years time, will head towards the PS3 due to exclusive games that will begin to appear. And if the PS3 Home thing comes out, accompanied by a fall in price, the Xbox 360 will have very few advantages ofver the PS3 whereas the PS3 will have many great advantages over the Xbox.
So overall I think that in a years time, when the PS3 price has fallen, and it has improved its online gameplay, the PS3 will be a huge amount better than the Xbox

TBH I think that the Xbox 360 has the edge over the PS3 because of its exclusive games and online multiplayer. Sony has nice exclusives but where the hell are they? They seem to keep getting delayed and developers say that it is more expensive and timely to make games on the PS3. In the U.S. it's obvious that the 360 will beat the shit out of the PS3 IMO. Every kid I knew in high school that played video games, played their 360 over Live. Why buy a PS3 if all of your friends own a 360? Halo 3 and Gears of War are/were huge games for the 360. As of yesterday, Final Fantasy XIII was announced to be released on both the 360 and PS3. What real reason is there to buy a PS3 for games, besides MGS4 which is a somewhat niche game in the U.S.? Sure it plays blu-ray movies but Sony also needs to focus on it's games. In addition, I've found 360 games to be generally more affordable or get cheaper much faster than PS3 games, although I'm sure most 360 owners on FST have their 360s flashed anyways so there already is an obvious advantage there. :P

I think 360 will win this round. It has a great games library, and you can't beat xbox LIVE. Obviously the fact you can flash the drives is going to attract more buyers, and the more consoles sold, the more likely game devs are to produce games for the platform. The only major set back with the 360 is the 3 red lights, but MS are slowly sorting that one out.

I don't see the PS3 reclaiming a lot of the PS2's userbase. Many, many of those users are now part of the Xbox 360's userbase. It had an entire year on PS3 to attract a userbase, and it managed to deliver. I know that would keep me with the 360. The Xbox 360 is landing exclusive deals not only with games, but with services as well, as was evidented by their Netflix deal. I can see a 360 sitting in almost every home, as the PS2 pretty much did.

well with the news that FF13 is coming to the 360, PS3 is going to be an epic fail (and yes i have one).
Wii will win, 360 2nd because people have to buy 2 or 3 every couple of years because they keep breaking, and PS3 will just be bought as a Blu-ray player, which lets face it, hasnt really taken off yet, DVD still rules the roost atm.
If they ever get Home up and running and its good, get some more exclusives, then it may push a little bit, but i still cant see it coming anywhere close to the other 2 (even if its moddable, i dont think it will)

This thread, as the title suggests, is about the year 2008, and I undoubtedly think that 360 still has the upper-hand this year (even with MGS4 on PS3 this year).
MGS4 is the only game that is making the PS3 at least stand in competition (in terms of games) against the 360 this year.
I predict that the PS3 will probably outclass the 360 (again, in terms of games) in the year 2010 and by that time the 360 will have done it's job and M$ will already be thinking about its next-gen system.
And as I stated in my first post, this thread is about X360 and PS3 because they are in the same league. The Wii uses last-gen cpu/gpu power and tackles a different market population.

The Wii will continue to crash them both. I imagine that if Nintendo is selling that many consoles, there have to be some game sales as well lol.
As for 360 vs Ps3. I only own a 360 and the 360 gets most killer games and I would never buy a console just to play exclusives. There would have to be like 20% or more in exclusives and they better be damn good. Also the 360 does also get exclusives or not?
I also preffer the 360 because I don't have to buy every single game. If you own a PS3, you do!

Btw, the 360 has the best attach rate for its software. The Wii may have the most console sales but the Xbox 360 has the highest attach rate meaning it has sold the most software per console than the Wii or PS3. These companies aim to make their money on the software, not on the consoles.

MGS4 is legendary... game play, storyline, graphics cannot be matched by any Xbox 360 game... MGS4 filled up the blu-ray disc (50GBs double layer) because it had so much content...
The game with the best graphics on PS3 is definitely Uncharted: Drake's Fortune... it also had a very good storyline and game play was good too.
PS3 will definitely win....

well lets put it this way, my 2 sons completed it, it took them 17 hours and 21 hours to do so and they watched everything.
they completed it again, skipping all the movies and cut scenes, it took them 11 hours, but to beat it properly, you have to complete it in 5 hours.
so there is a hell of a lot of cutscenes and movies in it, just like the other ones.
it still is a good game, but they they only play the online side of it. but definately far to much ZZZZ involved it you want to watch all the cutscenes.

I think Sony attracts people using a huge advertising campaign over a couple of games, but the Xbox have plenty of amazing titles, more enough that they don't have the same opportunity as their PS3 counterparts

That's exactly how I feel ^ The PS3 might as well be called a Blu-Ray player with the ability to play games. Not a game console with the ability to play Blu-Ray :P
