Well, the joyous wildfires have finally caught up with me, and I'm on 10 minute evac alert. So, have fun gentlemen. The harddrives are being taken out so I don't lose everything should, heaven forfend, my house burns to the ground.
Play nice.

Bon chance.

God Bless.
Posted by: MagicNakor
Well, I'm still here. ;) The wind is changing direction....right into the township. <_< It's going from southeast to south. Anyhow, if I suddenly drop off the planet for a while, that'd be why. ;) It shouldn't burn, but you can't tell with fire.

What town are you in?
Posted by: MagicNakor
It's not on any map. It's one of the Interior fires, though.
:ninja:
Posted by: balamm
Mapped or not, I've likely been through it at least.
Posted by: sArA
Hi all... thought I would just pop in....good luck hope the fire goes the other way...
Posted by: echidna
good luck & take care MagicNakor
i've been in similar sitches, and it's no fun [despite the extra adrenaline]

MN lives in an incredibly large grove of, um, potential firewood. :(
Posted by: MagicNakor
Nah, it's real firewood. ;) The fire's doubled in size since last I posted, so..yah. It's highly unlikely you've been through it balaam; it's about an hour from Kelowna.
What's going on, FC, is a very large, very out-of-control fire burning in very close proximity to my dwelling of choice. ;) The wind's blowing it straight into the poor little village.
:ninja:
Posted by: balamm
well, I've walked through Kelowna, kamloops, vernon, naramata, penticton, Enderby? I think it is, all the way down to princeton. I'd still bet I've passed through.

:o Sorry to hear that. :o
What you get for living in the sticks man.I will never leave the City. :D

Maybe you have then, balamm. ;)
I like seeing the stars though, FC. ;)

That can be easily arranged.... http://www.piczonline.com/client/titey/stick.gif
Seriously though, hope you manage to escape unsinged. ;)
I like living in the boonies too - though it does have it's drawbacks. :(

I have everything crossed for rain for you MagicNakor

To have Neil, Echidna, Clocker, Sara (Whom I thought was dead) and J2K4 in agreement in the same thread gives you celestial powers and me the shivers.
Please use these powers to preserve your sanctuary.
I am blowing the wind in the opposite direction as i do my "rain dance".

Is it working, MN?
Posted by: MagicNakor
I'm not entirely certain. The fire itself is about 6x the size it was before; indeed, it's only 5km away from here. But it's been pretty calm all day/night, so it hasn't advanced much since last day.
:ninja:
Posted by: echidna
that's not all bad MN remember that burned out land is your friend 'cause it can't fuel further fire fronts
have you got all your gutters full of water?
Posted by: ShockAndAwe^i^
Hi everyone!!
It's been quite a while since I since I've been hear.
I really missed you guys(even echidna)!
I would'nt worry about the fire because I hear it's only a class C fire.
Use some Ketchup!
Posted by: MagicNakor
Hey! I saw my house on the news! Cool! ;)
We're not able to use any water; it's all going to the fire trucks.
 If the land's burnt, so's my house. I'd rather not have to rebuild, thank you. ;)
It's over 13,000 hectares (31,200 acres) in size, S&A - that's far more than the 10-99 acres that classifies a "Class C" wildfire. And growing.
The wind's picked up again; if I'm still here tomorrow or the next day, I'll be suprised. ;)
:ninja:

Oh...boy MN.....if all Canadians were to blow in the same direction...maybe you could blow the fire into the US!!! lol. (no offence intended there yankie maties)
@ Hobbes.......I am fine thanks for asking...been rather busy on my return to the UK. I hope to be able to pop in and rejoin the mud wrestling with you guys periodically.
Posted by: MagicNakor
 That'd be funny. Except that there's already a large forest fire burning on the line. Wildfires for everyone! Priced to clear.

i'm suprised, prepared houses are not that hard to protect
and beleive me if you can protect your house while spot fires reduce fuel loads around you, you end up in a much better position
is water short then? no fire dams?
i've watched north americans get torched every couple of years while half of aus burns annually and we mostly only suffer property loses, the majority of property protection during fires is done by property occupants
good luck MN

I had a reply up, then the power went out. ;)
I don't really remember what it said, other than there's a very bad drought, the area's been over 50 days with no rain and temps in the high 30s, but there has been dry lightning. With the high winds, the fire's jumped the guards a number of times. There was something else too, but I don't remember right now. ;)

I have been away-
Is all well, MN?
Posted by: MagicNakor
I think so. We're not breathing in smoke daily anymore. ;) And I've been taken off evacuation alert. Unfortunately I don't know much more than that; there hasn't been any change newsworthy, I suppose.
:ninja:

Then I shall continue to endure the discomfort of typing with crossed fingers.
Posted by: MagicNakor
Ah, you can uncross your fingers any time now, we've been getting......rain! :D

Thanks, MN. :D
