Ok i got a modem, and there's no drivers for it for Windows 2000 so uhh now how do i get my modem working?
The modem is some Cardinal v.90 modem

the modem didn't come with a software disk?

it did, but windows 2000 doesn't find the drivers on the floppy

ok, I had this problem with my modem too, I had to manually point the pc in the right direction, where the wizard ask where to look for drivers. Mine came on a CD, not floppy, so for instance I had to set it to look in E:/drivers

There's no folders and yes i already did that, nothing.

did you buy this modem new? if you did, on the outside of the box, there should be a minimum sysytem requirements listing, see if your OS is in the list ;) if so, have you tried going to the manufacturers site and downloading a driver there?

A. MY friend gave me this modem
B. I don't think it wouldn't say Windows 2000 on it because it was made before it (maybe NT)
C. There is no manufactuar's site, the company went bankrupt

V90 is old. But.... If you can identify the chipset on the modem itself, It was likely a clone of some more popular chip. Windows update should even have the drivers for it and if it's properly configured in the device manager, it should be automatic. If not, try driverguide.com for another V90 and see if that does it. The login/password is drivers/all

u may be able to get away with forcing windows to install it as a generic/standard v90 56k modem, to do this just choose the option to select the modem from a list.

Good luck, Cardinal along with Hayes are out of business. I suggest to you that you buy a new one. If you go to your local computer discount shop you can usually get one for under $20. I bought my last one for $13. That is pretty cheap if you find you have no other alternatives.....
Edit - the other thing you might try is find out exactly what chipset it uses by a good visual inspection of the modem. Most modem manufacturers use another company's chipset and even though one company is out of business the chipset manufacturer may supply that same chipset to other modem manufacturers. Do a google search on that manufacturers website, look up that chipset and usually from the chipset maker they will supply a generic driver that will work on any modem with that chipset. Trust me - I know this for a fact. I had to do exactly this same thing yesterday for a buddy of mine on a old Conexant chipset. Now his modem works with Win2K just fine.

Ok i did the generic driver thing and the modem just didn't start and for that visual inspection thing, how do i figure out what modem driver to use?
