Internet Disconnects Over Night

Sometime I leave my computer on overnight to download large files, but every time it disconnects sometime in the night
When I look at it in the morning the dial-up icon (the 2 puters) is in the systray but it isnt on the internet
Can you recommend any keep-alive programs that actually work?

You might be SOL. When I was on dial-up my isp would reset my connection every six hours whether I was doing something or not. Yours might be doing something similar. Now that I think about it, that's the first thing that brought me to this forum a while back. I though it was kazaa-lite screwing it up. Aahhh, to reminiss (spelling?)
But back to you - I tried every dang stay connected program in the world and it turns our there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it except figure out exactly how lonf I could be away or connected and downloading before it would click off, and try to schedule things around it. Hope it's different for you, but I suspect it might not be.

My ISP allows 5 hours before disconnecting me. Win XP has a "reconnect if disconnected" option that I use to reconnect me. If you are not using XP, you could try PowerDUN (http://www.evolve.co.uk/powerdun) (If this is your problem)

Hi every1, i have just recently started having the same problem with my internet, its fine through most of the day but as soon as i leave it at night i wake up the next day and its as if some1 has disabled my internet but i wierd thing is that my linksys router is still showing all green light and when i enter my router settings the option to keeps the connection alive is checked so i dont know whats going on it has been workin great up untill now. btw jus to let you know im with tiscali
tried ringing tiscali costumer services and got put on hold for 35mins. When i finally got put through to your tipical Non-Uk based call center the woman didnt have a clue about computer and within 5mins she had put me back on hold so i decided to use the tursty internet forums.
could anyone tell me how to enable the "reconnect if disconnected" option because i cant find it

when i use my wireless router i have the same problem. every morning around 11am i have to reset my modem (disconnect and reconnect power). it became very very annoying because im usually not home at that time so i just started using my neighbors wireless instead on that computer

One reason could be your ISP is disconnecting you because of too many internet connections. P2P programs such as torrents could cause it easily. Try limiting max amount of connections to 100. I had this problem and this seems to fix it.

are you letting bittorrent downloads run over night?
linksys routers are known for choking on bittorrent downloads, then disconnecting from the inet. seems they can't handle the large number of connections usually made using torrents. replacing the firmware will help that though. not sure if this is your problem, but when i read linksys router, i figured i'd bring it up.
