Fines For Downloading Music

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have been using Kazaa Lite for some time now and I love it. I recently heard on the news where a 12-year old girl was fined $2000.00 for downloading music because the record companies are losing money. Is is safe to be downloading music off of Kazaa Lite? Do we need to worry about being fined? Please let me know if anyone has any information on this topic. Thanks. :)

You can get caught on anything i'm afraid. Because your ISP's can also see what you are downloading.. Either by actually 'seeing' what you are download... or the bandwidth you are using.

There shure is a risk of being fined but no risk no fun. Actually the risk is very small especially if you are not from the US.

there have been 230 million downloads of kazaa, only 261 people were sued
there are 65 million file sharing United States citizens, and the RIAA can only sue them.

The probability of you being sued is not very big at all to begin with. But if you also block the listing of your shared files and keep some bad IP ranges updated, you're chances of getting caught are less than you getting hit by lightning 3 times in one day.

Also yes, the above post is correct, she didn't pay - Grokster offered to pay the money, but not before a funraiser from a website raised the money in five hours. Even if you're sued, someone will hand you the cash to pay for it. I dont think anyone really has to worry.
