Looks like the Copyright police are closing in. Got these 2 messages from a forum I visit. 2 People WILL POSSIBLY have their internet cancelled by their ISP's.
STORY 1
bto sent me a email
It has come to our attention that your btopenworld account has been used for the unauthorised distribution of copyright material, including :
a very big list of my films.
bla bla breach of contract bla bla bla treminate in 24 hours bla bla remove files dont do it again.
So have bto been serfing irc did thay not read my disclaimer on the server script and has this happened 2 any 1 else.
And what isp should i be useing .
STORY 2
Well it had to happen....After 2 weeks in service my ADSL connection with Freeuk was suspended out of the blue. After calling I discovered that I was supposedly in breach of their contract by using P2p software and posting Ware* on the net Somebody or an organization in the US, tried to upload a game (max payne) from my disk and then contacted Freeuk. They crossed checked on their logs and connected the IP address to me on that day (night) and promptly suspended my account. After discussions with their support team I was told that the only way that they would reconnect me is if I admitted to having done wrong , apologize and fax all that to their abuse team. I was not going to admit to anything that somebody in the US had tried to pin on me.
And really what this somebody did was to access my hard disk without my knowlege (01:00) and try to upload some game that hapened to be on this disk...my p2p software is running, but whoever makes the upload does it willfully, its their choice..
What I don't understand is the lack of dialogue between freeuk and myself..a paying custumer..there is this immediate presumption that I am guilty as charged. I think that there could have been at least some sort of notification by email of the problem they are having.
Anyway I am not happy with this state of affairs where somebody in the US can get my ISP cut of a service that I am paying for on the presumption that I am infringing some copyright law because they I repeat they were able to access my hard disk and try to upload stuff that is on it.......
Is this big brother getting to me or what....

But recently there have been quite a few post by newbies - stories that just don't add up :) - i don't know what the policy is for all isps - but keep sharing and the worse that can happen is they'll give you a warning - atleast thats what happened in my case :)

These scare tactics are out there, but if your in the UK the Law actually protects you.
They arent allowed to access your computer without a court order or without invitation under UK DataProtection and Human Rights Laws.
The fact something is in your shared folder is only an implied invitation and is not valid under the law.
Thats why the fact BT was metioned was jumped on....they'd be acting illegaly to search you for the copyrighted material.

It's not denial we all know that a Tiny/Tiny minority have been ordered to quit and even less

All these companies that scan for certain files (i.e. minority report) are just scaring the community out of sharing, they send out these cute little sease and decist orders, but all that is is BS.
In most countries (except probalby Iraq), 'scanning' the way they do, isn't proof, they NEED your HDD physically to have proof, and then they'll still haev to prove that you were actively spreading files, so don't worry...
And when you DO get a sease and decist order (which I doubt you will unless you're in the US), just ignore it or stop sharing the file you were caught with...

Yes and it was started to curb all those sick fucks flying off to Thailand
A couple of times a year just to fiddle with kids and then coming back
to Britain and being smug about the fact that they couldn't be touched
So the British government made it illegal to sexually abuse children wherever you are and still be liable to prosecution in the U.K.
And damn right too.
Not sure if indecent images count but even without any direct evidenced (pictures, video)
It’s only right that people linked however tentatively to child pornography should be
investigated as thoroughly as the law allows.
