hi
the team set up some rules ..
1. All posts are the property of the poster. Comments and opinions are those of the poster, and do not necessarily reflect the views or beliefs of the site and its administrators. This forum, its administrators, and moderators have the right to request alteration or deletion of any offensive post. Posts may be deleted for any reasons the administrators and moderators deem reasonable.
2. There will be no excessive use of profanity. Please keep all foul language to a minimum.
3. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults or any other discriminatory comments or content.
4. There will be no offensive or inflammatory posts meant to offend or hurt any other member(s) or guest(s) of this forum.
5. Spamming is not permitted; please keep all your posts as constructive as possible.
6. Advertising or soliciting for a product or service for the purpose of commercial gain without the consent of the administrators is prohibited.
7. Try to post in the correct forum. Take the time to look at the other topics, read forum descriptions, and see where your topic should go. Also, take the time to read the FAQs and other pinned topics. The administrators and moderators may move topics posted in the wrong areas.
8. Posting of direct download links to copyrighted software, private ftp sites, serial numbers, and Ware* sites are prohibited. Posts directly or indirectly containing this information will be edited. Sig2dat quicklinks and hashes are NOT considered to be DDL, so those are allowed.
9. Signatures will be restricted in size and content. Images may not be any larger than 300x150. Text will be no larger than 5 lines. Signatures that do not comply may be removed or edited by a moderator or administrator.
10. Avatars can not be uploaded; they must be linked from another web address. They can not exceed 64x64 in size, and must not be offensive in nature.
11. Complaints concerning moderators or their actions may be discussed with that moderator or brought to the attention of an administrator via PM.
Please check that your sig comply with rule number 8. The rule is going to come into force in a week ...

Finally some hard set rules..... hopefully the newbies will read them and i'll check on my signature straight away....

hm.. nice rules.. newbies should read this post/rules..

Maybe, along with the validation email, you could send these rules with it.... just a thought... ;)

Being Belgian, I always look for a backdoor in laws and regulations. :)
So I must say that a sig of 300X150 cm is more than sufficient for me. What are you guys complaining about? :D

one way to reduce the download time of a page, is to disable your sig, if you post on a topic more than once.....

you know we ain't censoring the board, just plain rules they're everywhere. Even in p2p (no leeching) on the net (pay your isp) no swearing and sig size seem pretty normal to me ;) For a lot of us this was already the standard just see it as reminders. B)

I think Datamore has a point though.
It's not really the pixel count that matters on the download, just the size of the file.
A gif, especially an animated one, is a lot bigger than a jpeg one.
Maybe the board should reconsider changing the rules to actual file size....

Yep I think the size of the file is in fact what matters.
If you take a look at my signature's image properties you will see that each one is only about 16Kb each, though they seem quite big.
Take a look at the little gif animations posted by bestoutof2 here (http://66.111.40.101/bb/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=12404&st=15) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I've noticed that some members might be upset at the introduction of these rules, but once more, most of these have always existed(in the terms of agreement). And I believe that most will be enforced as they have always been, on a case by case basis. So I don't see any big change.
It's just with the posting of these, now there is something for you guys to refer to if you want to know why something was edited, deleted, or moved.
@killa
I think there would always be some kind of warning prior to being banned, except in extreme cases. Such as somebody going through and spamming every section on the board, as happened about a week ago.
Posted by: Zardoz
I thought the rules above went without saying.
Now they have been made public then nothing has changed
If someone can't live by these rules then He/she must be out of control.

I don't agree with that... And i'm not saying your sig is bad or anything, DataMore, hell, I don't even see your sig... but anyway on to the reason i don't agree with that..
Pixel size of an image can be worse than filesize, IMO, cause a big image pixel wise will make you have to do some very unneccesary scrol and also (for me atleast) when i scroll past a big image (pixel wise) it causes the whole scrollin of the page to slow down... File size really isn't that important to me, since i got cable, but for 56k'ers i know it is a prob

I'm late (again) at this topic but nothing at the top seems unreasonable.
After all, about a month ago this board read like a major magazine site. Huge pics everywhere, and even I got out of hand with a 50 line sig for about 18 hours.
A little restraint is a good thing.
Posted by: Bender
As said before, all these rules are simply common sense.
Before, some of them were kind of unwritten, but the board has grown too big too fast to expect everybody to know them.
With making them official I think the work of the Moderators will be a lot easier.
So yes, I agree with it! :)
edit: My sig seems to be 250x220 pixels and therefore too big.
I already reduced it with 50% in PhotoPlus4 using the 'percentage' option.
Should I reduce it by using the 'pixels' option?
edit2: Nevermind, I had to change it anyway because of the 'ketchup on pasta' war...
Posted by: Rocko
When the Rulez going to be aplied????, I still see very big signatures!!!
300 X 150 pixels is not that difficult to understand.
Posted by: gumbydancin
Personally I think our avatars are all we need to show a little character on the board. WHo cares about a sig?
Posted by: "The Avatar Man"
I am now in compliance with rule 8 :D
Posted by: Lamsey
Is there any way to make sure that newbies have to read through the Rules, Conditions, etc. before they can post?
Posted by: pete3003uk
I guess its the saying "only fools rush in".
I suppose we are all guilty of that sometimes!!!!!
Keep reminding them curtiously and I guess they will learn.

ummm.....Why would the mods have any say over what we (the users here) do anywhere other than on our site (this site right here)???
It's up to each of us to control ourselves at other forums/websites, not the mods from this site.... IMO, they do a great job of modding (or as you call it "educating") at our site :)

well coz first they came here. and they are not being a good representative of this forum... the other people there wants to come here and do a war like they did. but we dont want that. so why not try tell them to keep away on our forum. and all of us will be happy

yeah indeed not nice, if they're members from here. Sorry they spammed your board. But as Yusuke said, we can't control all their net behaviour. We have some members that are pain in the ass to control even on our own board. <_< I like to apoligize for them, so sorry B)

Yusuke, sorry about archdevil he has a tendancy to over react at times, but it is a valid point he's raising.
i know it's a pointless and futile exercise to go into a stupid war over what a few ppl say, so your right in saying let it rest.
we all know that we're on the same side and p2p is the best thing ever,
so peace and light to all and have a good time one and all
jetje love the avatar go talk to criplindream in alternate reality(other forum) he's gonna be very jelous of it

Don't let a few hotheads of us start a war between our boards.
We have only 3 or 4 of them overhere and they've been reprimanded many times by other members by now.
The problem is, as Jetje already said, we CAN'T control them on other boards.
I advise your Mods to delete their unconstructive/spamming posts, so they'll see it has no use.
By looking around on our board I think you've seen that the majority of us is NOT that way.
@ Our members on the warpath: STOP ACTING LIKE KIDS!

I agree with the rules, I mean they were always there and maybe did need to be brought to the forefront again. I also think something about nude or obscene pictures would be a valid addition. As I am on the board a lot and I do have small children at home that may sneak up on ShareDaddy as he is is perusing the site, so a ban on graphic avatars or sigs would be a nice thing. Just remember, 10 or 12 rules is one thing, you start adding rules at a drop of a hat and you will end up with something that does not work.

True, let's stick to those 10 or 12 rules.
The rest has to come out of common sense by people acting like grown-ups.
Posted by: ugluk
i agree with the rules, but not with that obscene pics/avatars shouldn't be allowed!! what would happen to Jetje's avatar? or anna kournikova! or baldguys girls? :(
Posted by: jetje
Just use your common sense, you know what's wrong what's right. Think my avatar is no more ordinary as todays cartoon on fox kid channel.
Posted by: NikkiD
How true, jetje, how true. I would be offended if someone's avatar was some chick with legs spread wide, but boobs and cleavage are nothing.
Posted by: sexpot
agreed who knows just how young some of the users are on this board. The last thing we need to see is some upset parents complaining that their childreen are being poorly influenced by pics, avatars etc from here. This is a very informative forum lets keep it that way. :D
Posted by: chloe_cc2002
Is there a definitional or interpretation section to define words like 'offensive', 'obscene', 'inflammatory' etc.
Furthermore 'meant to hurt etc' implies the existence of mens rea, intention, and is that to be determined objectively, subjectively???
Do the McNaghten rules apply?
Posted by: UKMan
The rulez have been made - thats that!!
Why all the chatter folks??
This aint no poll - its the rulez!
If i didnt know better, i'd think you where just upping your points - like i am :D
Posted by: Ron
How about a little addition to those rules?
Maybe we could make newbie's address full members with "Sir", Sr. members with "your Excellency", and K-lite Gods with "your highness".....
Just a thought. :)
Posted by: -=M3th0d=-
Seriously u guys, y dont u give newbies a break, half the posts in the whole forum are just slagging off newbies. Are u trying to say u have always been a whiz at computers and that u never had to learn from scratch? I doubt it. An also, what makes you think that just because someone has only just joined this forum means that they have never used a computer before, for all u know someone with only 10 posts could be a 40 year old computer programmer. I mean christ, show a bit more respect and understanding for new members, all your doing is looking like arrogant fools when you knock noobs back and are scaring off people who could one day be as helpful and knowledgable as you more experienced members are. Why post stuff just saying 'read the faq read the faq read the faq' again and again and again, if u know the answer? y not just post the answer and make everyone's life easier? how much more effort is it?
Posted by: Nobody1234
@kevin13579Why post stuff just saying 'read the faq read the faq read the faq' again and again and again, if u know the answer? y not just post the answer and make everyone's life easier? how much more effort is it?
Try putting in that effort and you will see.
Stick around a while and really try to help by answering those questions. After you have given the answers to enough people asking the same question that was answered a few treads before you wonder if they read anything before posting. If they can't read what's already here what make you think they will even read your answer?
I'm not saying that we should flame them or put them down. I just don't see the problem with pointing them to the answers instead of repeating ourselves.

Mens Rea is guilty knowledge i.e. to be aware that you are doing something illegal. Actus Reus is to commit an act which is illegal. For most offences (other than absolute offences i.e. guilty knowledge is not required) both are required. So you must do something which is illegal and know that it is illegal.
Interestingly, in Latin rea is the feminine and reus is the masculine. So to act is masculine and to think is feminine. In the majority of case both are required.
