Ok i think i have said this b4, but God Bless Windows XP...

The reason i say this, my bro ( who is 12 ) wanted a comp 4 games, well i wud not let him use mine so my pops psicked up a 300mhz / 3gig comp 4 next 2 nuthing...

And it runs win 98, god how i hate win98, the look and feel of Win98 is just well shit...

Things like u can't view thumbnails in 98 , u haven't got the cool start menu that has your own pic at the top + the fact u can put the icons in that cool start menu thing so they don't cluter up your desktop...

Just had 2 share that useless info with u guys

but WIN98 is the worst

Posted by: Livy

u dont even get 3mhz do u? my calculators probably faster than that, sure it aint 300mhz? thats sounds abot right compared to the size of the drive for a sys spec

edit: yeah i got a few emulator cds, mega drive and snes. hehe. and me ol amiga one, im sure i still have my amiga kicking abbout

I've got a 33Mhz processor around here somewhere, It might be a good upgrade for you metro

Heck I think I have an 8 mhz Amiga-one, If your mobo can't handle the Power of the first one.

Posted by: MetroStars

oops i made a typo it's 300mhz not 3

sorry, still crap tho

Posted by: Livy

lol, god knows what my amiga one was, i was an amiga 600, dont know about the speeds though,

my main desktop is still a 500, clocked to 550, but i onyl use my laptop now, athlon xp 1500, which aint exactly fast by nowadays

I use 400Mhz, don't laugh.

My dad used to use an ancient Gateway 2000 100mhz 20mb ram 8mb video computer to run windows 98... GOD it took like 3-4 mins just to start up sometimes cause he had spyware on it too. Oh yea, did i say when i looked inside.. The parts were also 2-3 times bigger? The graphics card is like half the size of my new mobo i use.. man they really have improved computers..

Hmmm... Let's see.. what is this XP start menu you refer to? Well, it's a folder pinned to a shortcut.
Can win98 not do that? It could last time I checked. A simple addon gives the ability to change any folder Icon. All desktop shortcuts are then moved into that folder, leaving the desktop clean.
There's so many other things that can be explained or simplified for people but people will still probably want automation, smoke, and mirrors. Like XP. smoke and mirrors. Noob OS. fool proof. so they claim ;)

98 has to many errors, i hated it.

I uninstalled XP the same day I installed it on top of 98. Linux or FreeBSD are better alternatives for me than XP. Linux Mandrake is an infinetly better choice. 9 times out of 10, most errors can be attributed to OEM specifics. That's why some folks go with Dell over HP, Gateway over Compaq, Mac over Sun, it's how the OEM settings/drivers/hardware functions with the OS. Most 'OEMs' are not the original manufacturers of the hardware, they buy bulk hardware, compile it, and ship it out, software bundles and all. Microsoft OS's are just a cog in the wheel.

YEah, but i wanna see what 2003 like.

Posted by: balamm

What is 2003? Another winbeta creation <_<

Or do you mean server 2003? Forget about doing much of anything if this is what you mean. It's not desktop friendly at all.

i use the classic view in XP........... the round thingy just eats resources..........

in 98SE u had thumbnails...... just not as icons (which kinda was a good thing, since this again speeds up ur comp, XP just has the option 2 do a lot of needless shit and slow down ur comp)

and bout them icons.......... quicklaunch ne1??? or else just put em in the no-so-cool-but-more-functional-classic-start-menu

i use XP as wel......... and only cause it's (a lil) more stable and uses the work mem a lil smarter......
