I see ppl talking about ftp and"Fresh of the news groups"Now what i would like to know is how to set this up on my system ie:what progs to use,the DO's and DON'Ts and if someone could give a quick rundown on how to get it all working after instalation that would great.

Bulletproof ftp (http://www.bpftp.com/) is a common used program for this. Read up on the site, may even get some pointers on setup.

Im using FlashFXP - vary good prog (its have a lot op + it can solve spacale FTP addres IP Masq/NAT/Non-Routable IP)

I use bulletproof as well. It's a good program.
whatever you do make sure you are using a firewall (Norton personal firewall is good)
and make sure you set up good passwords on your system

Once downloaded you will open and install the program and a wimdow will open.
It will prompt you for the FTP addy, username and password, all info which you should have had emailed to you when you got your website or hosting.
Fill in those fields and connect. You will then see 2 seperate windows, one (usually on the left) that is yours and one on the right that is the website. You should then be able to drag and drop files from left to right into whatever folder you want (after opening up the folder, just to make sure the file reaches it's destination) and there, you have "FTP'ed", and your file is now online.

And I must agree, I use WS_FTP PRO and it really is awesome in terms of speed, configuration and functionality.
It's available on kazaalite too, took me 15 seconds to d/l and I would really reccomend it.

The free cheapest is using a DNS rerouter, and hosting the site on your on computer...
Get your web site up and running on your own computer, configure your CGI to run as well. Configure your firewall. then look up 'DNS to go' on your search engine. apply to them or to one that is about the same.
Your DNS settings should change each time you connect, and people can only access your pages when you are online, but it does work, and you have total control over content.

Then whenever you connect to the Internet, a program on your computer autmatically pings 'DNS to go' or equivalant, tells them of current DNS address to your web page, and you are in business for that session.
