A trainer is a program that runs aside the game the trainer is for, in this case AoM (Age of Mythology i guess), and manipulates it (to cheat in most cases).
Most trainers can do stuff built in cheats can't (like give you loads of cash/food/whatever u need lots of in the game, make your units godlike, make everybody happy etc..).

Most trainers are designed the same way as Random Nut designed K++; they use assembly language to modify the source code.

xcheater.com (http://www.xcheater.com) and Avault.com (http://www.avault.com) always have all the cheats I need, they have trainers for most games too.
