Has P2p Paid For Your Computer?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SodiumChloride

How much did your computer cost? $1000? $2000? How about your internet, maybe $30 per month?

Now count your MP3s... or better yet, count the number of artists. CDs usually have one artist on them, and usually have 10-20 songs on them. Take the number of atrists of the songs you've downloaded, add a few if you have more than 20 for an artist, since you'd buy 3 or so CDs anyway for so many songs, and subtract the number of CDs you've actually bought. Multiply that number by a common CD price... say $20.

Now add up all the games and software you've downloaded but haven't bought and total it with your MP3 total.

Pay for your computer yet? :) It would be an interesting poll... but i cant create one

I suppose you could subtract what you wouldn't have bought anyway (Photoshop?)

that's not how your account for the values of pirated songs/software

they have NO values, they are shared freely on the internet so people can enjoy.

dont mix them together.

how much are you willing to pay a copy of pirated software/song?

ZERO!!

That's true.... but what if you DIDN'T have a computer? This thread is about weather or not you indirectly paid for your computer by using P2P

Oh well I have like a lot of albums with a lot of songs which covers the computer costs. After that it just goes way beyond.

Posted by: vivitron 15

id agree with mr bond.

i wouldnt have gone out and bought the vast majority of the pirate material on my pc, so really the music companies havent lost a great deal, and i havent gained a great deal from them.

Built my own Desktop for £1'200, 12 months ago. I have dl probably about 3'000 mp3 files (about 200 albums)and 300 avi files, I pay £28 p/month for adsl (12 month contracts up, so i can/will be getting it cheaper soon).
Now the figures....
£1'200 - Desktop
£28 x 12 Months adsl = £336
£200 on 700mb cd's - 500 cd's at 40p each (with cases)

Total Cost = £1'736

£1'736 divided between 500 albums/movies = £3.47 p/item. ;)
Say no more.

Although I would not too buy almost anything fo what I downloaded I still understand the point of the poll. Between music, games, and software I'm well over what I paid for my system. I don't feel like adding up but it certainly is alot more than I would have paid for anything.

Photoshop is a very large sum of money in the shops, nevermind all the plugins I have for it, which can cost up to $400 each in themselves.

I have easily paid for my PC.

Posted by: kazaalite911

Photoshop came with this VIAO, so i can't say i've saved money on that. but i've used KMD and 1.6years ago KLite, have enormous amount of music files. also use WinMX for some tracks i cant find in kazaa.

but back to the original topic...I've saved enough probably to buy 4 or more VIAOs w/ music, movies, programs, games, etc.

Posted by: Smooch

If i'd payed for all of the albums I have on my PC, i'd of spent in the regoin of £2500

Wow, you can buy a decent second hand car with that B)

Posted by: Sparkle1984

Well done everybody for paying for your computers with p2p !! :)
I suppose I probably have aswell, but haven't bothered to work it all out properly..

Posted by: toddiscool

I totalled a little while ago, just games and and some big software. (i still buy the movies that I would, and am not big on music) totalled about 10,000 a couple of months ago.

Comp cost around 2000

Posted by: j4y3m

I Don't Have Much But.....PhotoShop And Nero Thogether Would Nearly Make Up The Cost Of My PC :P

Posted by: Gre1

P2p has bought me about 2 or 3 comps

Posted by: chaos_dragon_666

yep p2p mainly shareza i like that beter and i know this a klite board but invrese the speeds of your downloads shareza is alot faste but hardly anyone uses it and yes after effects 6.0 pro paid for my laptop not to mention photoshop 7.0 and the 8-10 plugins and not the stupid bundles that have upto 300 of them in it but the real name brand one's why not get the ones with preveiw screens when its free and know i dont use these ............................. they just take up more time and
typing
but
after effects 6.0 pro = 999.00
photo shop 7.0 = about 700.00
audition1.0 = 400.00
about 15-20 plugins for all above about 2,000-2,500
all that added = 4,500
and my laptop only cost 799.00
after rebate so yes i would say it did
:beerchug: :teehee: =] :x

Posted by: james_bond_rulez

that just shows how ridiculus how these software are priced.

overpriced, overrated shit all over america...

Posted by: Supernatural

Windows XP Pro: $200
Photoshop 7&8: $1600
1000 MP3's: $1000
Office XP+2003: $1200
Maya: $8000
Misc Software: $500
Total: $12,500

How much I paid: $300 for PC and 3 years of broadband ($960) = $1260

The internet has saved me $11,240.

only if software is really goood or artist is good I would support
him but directly more than through music industry ...

... I have over 1000 songs ... and some software ... and other files,
that would be quite much - but not all songs you can get in normal shops...
...some are not on cd only on kazaa ...
