RIAJ Wins Judgement Against Peer-To-Peer Service Japan MMO

The recording industry association of Japan, RIAJ, and 19 record company members today secured a judgement that the FileRogue peer-to-peer service operated by Japan MMO violated their copyrights.

The court found that both Japan MMO and its principal Michio Matsuda were responsible for infringing the plaintiffs' rights, and must pay damages. Further proceedings will determine the level of damages and the scope of other relief.

RIAJ, the record companies, and authors' society JASRAC sued Japan MMO in November 2001. Today's decision is an 'interlocutory judgement' that determined liability; it confirmed the court's April 2002 preliminary injunction that required Japan MMO to suspend the service.

A survey by the plaintiffs indicated that the vast majority of the 70,000 files available on the service at any one time were commercial CD tracks put on the internet without permission from the rights owners.

A statement from the RIAJ said: "Today's ruling will significantly help in preventing Japan from degenerating into a 'pirate paradise' in the borderless world of the internet. RIAJ will continue to take strong measures against the illegal distribution of music on the internet, which corrupts the cycle of music creation and damages music culture."

Allen Dixon, IFPI General Counsel and Executive Director said: "Online music piracy causes substantial damage to record companies, artists and others in the music business. The Japan MMO decision helps to get this point across, and is fully consistent with the growing international consensus that putting other people's music on the internet is illegal."

I thought it was a typo when I saw RIAJ but man... what if the RIAA learn something from this and use it for their plan? Hopefully it doesn't happen to us... :(

I am sure they are in alliance already. From what I read, the RIAA is going after individual users instead of Kazaa because they Kazaa has already walked since technically they are not the pirates, it is the users. Just install peerguardian to be safe. Supposedly, it blocks those RIAA bastards from your computer. Do some searching on this forum to get the full scoop on the RIAA, the long arm of the law, and peerguardian.

I think part of the idea is to get similar international decisions, making it easier to go after people on decentralized p2p networks such as fasttrack.

But god it sickens me to watch, just how little these people "get it". They should be trying to bring us in, make us want to pay for services online but instead they drive more and more people away from them.

Just think, kazaa/k-lite has 4 times the users Napster did in it's heyday. And growing. Court decisions or not, it has already started and maybe these people need to reasses their business models.

Alright, I just installed it and looks good... Is there an easier way to add "Bad IP's" rather than just inserting each IP one at a time?

I was talking about the IP Ban List, but nvm, i guess I'll just have to stick with adding each "Bad IP" one by one...

Pretty much I think, long as you have the right list, which I am sure we all have looked at. Forget who posted it but good show.

Maybe that was a diffeent post ?

Seems so, though strangely I understand exactly what he is saying.

Now this I don't understand:

Your username is Shinigami right? But your avatar is Vegeto, and not Duo. God only a real junkie would know that but still I had to ask.

LOL, i'm still trying to find a good pic of Duo but most of them are full sized pics, showing his whole body and all, and i guess i need to update my avatar.. Oh and my current avatar is a pic of Trunks and his sword  :P

P.S. Its kind of funny that Duo and I have some similarities thugh :D

Posted by: SuperJude™

Damn you it is murai Trunks!

So, does that mean you're a Gemini? Duo having the persona thing and all that. I can't believe I thought that was Vegeto LOL! Just watched movie 12 (where technically he is Gojeta not Vegeto) so it must have been on my mind.

Hmmm.

I know I have seen a few Duo avatars over the years, just don't know where to get them.

Alright, updated my avatar with Deathscythe... what do you think? or should i get one of Duo? the only things Duo and I have in common is that, our names are both Maxwell, we like to be full of energy and well my favorite number is 2 and part of his name is Duo, which means 2, LoL so not that much in common but hey, no worries... But i've been more of a Heero Yui though, been quiet and serious alot lately, its also been getting me the ladies :P  :D
