Just Got Put On 'smallband' By My Isp Again

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Mavol

like the title says: i got put on 'smallband' meaning my download speed is like 5kB/s max and my upload 1kB/s max.
this is all because my isp has a limit on how much you can dl & ul and im over my upload limit again.
you get like 10GB dl & 1.5GB ul. i already pay 2€ extra every month to get 12GB dl & 1.8GB ul and im not gonna pay more!
i think that after today im gonna stop sharing popular files, seems like the only solution?

Posted by: Gre1

I'm glad I don't have a limit, better switch ISP's

Posted by: cosmic doobie

Wise to start looking for a new supplier.
Don't give up sharing Please!!

Posted by: Gre1

I was suggesting u get a new ISP

Posted by: Mavol

its the only isp here that supplies cable...

Posted by: Gre1

that's fucked big time.

I can upload over 2 GB in 1 day -- and that's at the 'pathetic' max rate of 29 KB/sec!

A 56k dial-up modem connected at 50k and downloading at 5 KB/sec going all-out, 24-7 for a whole month can hit about 12 GB downloaded.

I don't know what they call what you've got, but it *AIN'T* broadband if those are its limits...

Even NTL's 1 GB/day traffic limits seem nice compaired to that!

Ya i agree with swiftteck. Whatever service you have it is not broadband. I mean you are getting 56k speeds. I hope you are not paying a lot money for POS service.

Its not taht easy for ppl just to get another ISP

i myself can only get this 1 particular ISP in this country ijn the area where I live

the US are lucky there lines are government paid where as Telstra is a monopoly

there are a couple of ISPs that have unlimed in asutralia but not in my area

and I have a 12 gig cap a month and if I go over that I get shaped to 72k but I have a thing called control and by about the last 2 to 3 days I get shaped nothign worth bitching about i have no uploads limit

be thankful you dont live in aust and get done what 1 poor guy did he left kazaa on all month

bigpond charges like 50 bucks for 1 gig a month and an arm and a leg after you go over that somethign like $1.20 per meg after the limit what this poor guy didn tknow was they had uplaod cap.

well his kids left kazaa goin gfor a whole month and out camem the 20,000 bill poor guy was in tears kids thought they were helping him get a few programs for him

he lsot the court case too coz he agreed to the terms and agreements

Posted by: the-ninja69

Damn is must f*cking sux for internet where you live.

I am glad I live in USA :D

Posted by: nanotek

glad i live in germany as i dont have a cap either

Posted by: darkmind

i read that in n. korea they are coming out w/ 50 meg sdsl for like 50-70 us $
the info was from a pc mag i have somewhere around here

Posted by: Gre1

I know I couldn't just switch ISP's because there is a 1 year contract.

i had a 12 month contract, it ran out last month and i am currently looking for a better deal, but i am really happy with the 12 months i have had with B.T.

I do pay £1 a day for my broadband, but to be honest its been sweet with B.T. i have had little problems, and when i have they have always sorted it out straight away over a free call to them, also there has been no capping.

So maybe i may stay with them. I may wait for the T1 service they are going to bring out soon.

Posted by: reservebox

get freeserve broadband - that has NO limit ;)

Posted by: Gre1

I have SBC DSL

Posted by: thetransplanted

me too

well when im not on smallband i have 4 Mbps downstream and 128 kbps upstream with no cap a day or something similar

normally you pay € 41,95/month but cause i got 2 extra GB i pay € 43,95/month

and still they put me on smallband i mean im paying for cable and i get this smallband thing. i wish i lived where you guys live so i could get a decent isp. this isp is actually the only big cable provider in Belgium (where i live), i dont even know if there are smaller ones which supply cable

yeah, over a period of 30 days or 31

i do selective downloading, dl what i really need now, the rest i do next month.

well im pretty happy about this 10GB, its just that the upload is 15% of your total dl limit. so 15% of 10GB= 1.5GB upload

If you get that, who are you going to be downloading from?
'cuz there's like nobody that can UPLOAD that fast.

On KL++, even a 1 Mbps download/ 0.25 Mbps upload connection is overkill nowdays. :(

Posted by: darkmind

i know no one can upload that fast i just dl lots of "stuff"
i always find a way to max out a connection
always :)

Posted by: Mavol

just bought another 1GB dl so got +15% of 1GB ul. im not on smallband anymore! but im paying another 1€ extra a month :( . this time ill stop sharing if i see me reaching the limit, but i guess thats leeching then?

you think its ok to not share for a while till i get have a reasonable distance between my upload-limit??

Then get xDSL.

I live in Britain and my ISP has no bandwidth caps, no ports blocked, no port throttling, no time limits, no nothing ...

It's the best ADSL ISP in the UK, it's the cheapest, without strings attached, and it's called Gio Internet!

In that Japanese one, is it an ethernet connection directly to the ISP or something?

What connection speeds do that Gio Internet offer?

Posted by: Mavol

just amazing

i started sharing again when it dropped under 95% ul, but i noticed the people downloading from me were aborting and quickly resuming. This causes my ul-speed to change from 7kb/s to 19.... and im gonna be put on smallband again. <_<

Since you're on such HORRIBLE monthly bandwidth limits, it makes very good sense for you to force KL++'s max upload bandwidth to be only a fraction of your connection's max upload speed.

Since you said you have only 128 kbps upload bandwidth, try setting it to only 64 kilobits or even 32 kilobits in KL++ and max uploads slots at once to no more than 4 (probably do best with only 1 or 2 upload slots.)

This should cause uploads to reach your monthly limit much slower PLUS have fewer resends of 'lost' data.

I just really tried to put thought on a way to get around it but I can't that is just messed up I think all peeps with limits should try there best to get another ISP.

thx for the responses

i actually once read somethin here but i have no idea if it works and how to do it: uncapping your modem. I once read here that the limit is kept in your modems firmware and that this can be altered but your isp could always check if your doing are it....
i'd probably mess up

i checked for xDSL providers but: same limits 10GB/m

Never ever come and live in belgium!

im on smallband till 5/12 :(

Posted by: cwctv

Get Netlimiter this will help you to keep an eye on everything your uploads speeds/downloads speeds plus the amounts (megs) used on a daily/ weekly/ monthly should help you to not go over your limits.

Have a look here about Japan's speeds. :(
