Backing Up/burning My Dvds...

I am looking at getting a DVD-RW drive later this year. Out of curiosity, what program would be used to back up, and make identical copies of my dvd collection in case they were to ever be stolen or scratched. I have some really good ones, and I wouldnt want any thing bad to happen to them. The scarface one alone is worth like 50 bucks, :P
Programs, pointers, any tips? Thanks guys, im new to this whole process.

Also, any one have a dvd burner yet? Any recommendations? I want to go with a dvd-rw, as it seems to me, this format will end up winning out, or at least be more common, as it is now.
I have seen the sony combo, +rw, -rw, but i dont really need one of those.

Check out :WinOnCD6-DVD_edition.
Supports DVD-RW and has mpeg2-encoder.

DVD-R is the best format. The software that will come with your drive will be virtually useless to you, as it does not allow you to copy or back up any copyrighted discs. However, many resources are available online, and within 2 hours of installation, I'd copied my first DVD. I used the Pioneer A05 and I have no complaints.
I will point out for those people who don't know.. most DVDs sold today are DVD-9 format, which means they are actually TWO DVDs pressed together. This makes the movie files larger than 4.5 Gb, which means
1. you'll need two discs to do a true DVD copy
2. you can burn just the movie, no special features in perfect DVD quality
3. you can burn the movie, with the DVD extras, but you have to downsample the video quality
I wouldn't even attempt to try any of this on any less than a Pentium 3 computer loaded with lots of RAM. Celerons are also crap, so don't expect anything but poor performance unless you get a fast machine.
There is so much bullshit on this board, its nice to get a real answer once in a while. :huh: B) :D --

Oh yeah, I use Smartripper to rip the DVD, then DVD2ONE to re-encode the files, then Stomp Recordnow Max to burn the files back to DVD.--

look also at the new multistandard-players Revoy & Kiss-player.
Use boardsearchengine or look at some techsite.
